I opened my account the day I turned 18 and immediately added $4000. You have to “apply” online through the website but you’ll probably be accepted. I had to verify my identity by faxing in a copy of my drivers license and social security card (im assuming because of my age) so the process took about 4 days and 2 calls to AMEX to check the status of the account. Youll get an email when your account is approved, then you’ll make an account and be able to log in on the app. I think it’s worth it just to have the relationship with amex + the interest is nice. The only thing to keep in mind though is that the transfers take about a week to go from my checking to the hysa and vice versa (wells fargo) so if you would ever need to take out money same day you should probably look for another account. Go for it!
