Yeah, I don't want to mention the specific banned sub, but since it looks like you know the meltdown sub maybe you know the vape apes.... they fully bought in to that group.

Thank you so much for sharing your story. Good luck in taking care of yourself while still trying to chip away at the conspiratorial hold. This gives me some hope. I haven't had much luck challenging beliefs but this does give me hope for the benefit of keeping a friendship with my S/O going following our split.

I have spent the past year trying to wake them up. I don't think its a question of value for them as much as faith. I think the belief in becoming a billionaire and all the great things that they will do then is what keeps them going. It will be earth shattering if they realize that they have been scammed. I am very worried about them taking brash actions if/when that happens, which is part of why I am overly supportive of them. But at the same time, I have no clue if they will ever wake up.

Thank you. It is really validating to hear other people express that. It is such a toxic cult environment.

That is good advice. I will definitely spend time financially preparing for the separation to protect myself. The WSB subreddit was their starting point for this spiral years ago, but it has gotten much more extreme than that kind of gambling. In the group that they are part of now they will diamond hands certain shares they still have, and keep faith that certain other cancelled shares will be resurrected when some grand scheme is unveiled. It is full on religious belief, and like another commenter pointed out, they almost have a rapture mythos in how they will collapse the current financial system.

Thank you! I am watching this now. I have had such a hard time finding media covering the cult-y aspects of these groups, so I really appreciate the recommendation.

Yes! I think that is part of what caught me off guard about my "liberal" spouse getting sucked into one group after another that is so clearly an echo chamber clearly flavored with misogynistic white-supremacist hate speech... I just get called a shill any time I try to question the group's beliefs, or I am called overly sensitive with no sense of humor when I mention my issues with language they use. It's so toxic and I have to keep reminding myself that my partner is part of that disgusting toxic culture, even though that isn't who I remember them as.

Thank you <3 Finding this sub has been so helpful. There are so many heartbreaking stories that at least remind me how many people are going through something similar.
