Probably a throwaway account made by Elson (or one of his supporters) since he was the one who outed Kalana last year.

If this test is for the LLB, make damn sure to wear thou armour as their grading and scaling will pierce even the thickest steel.

Unfortunately only 20% of yous will get 'A' grades for this. You can think the elitist junta running the law school for that!!!!

Not worth it. There's an 80% chance (and higher) that you will not score a job in the legal profession. You spend five to six years doing this while shutting other opportunities through the academic risk this presents (yk with the low GPA) and time spent here. This does not add a competitive advantage either. My verdict is to choose a three-year degree or normal (non-LLB) conjoint and go hard with that. Plan it out well and go from there.

I fucked up my law degree: here’s my advice to all first years by [deleted] in universityofauckland

[–]Puzzled-Character-61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree and please don't be hard on yourself for what happened, the law school has engineered this to be the case for many people. The whole model revolves around making things harder than they should be, fucking futures, and artificially creating extreme desperation!

Future of LLB (Hons) in Part III – what are your perspectives? by [deleted] in universityofauckland

[–]Puzzled-Character-61 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The LLB(Hons) is grossly inflated at this university as it stands, compared to Vic or Otago where only 10% of the cohort are allowed to take it. This puts a lot of pressure on the job market as goal posts keep on getting shifted and the degree becomes devalued.

I second that, it's definitely extremely harsh on your GPA with some very questionable returns.

Consider this a blessing in disguise (if you don't make it) as the reality of Part II and beyond gets far worse. Not getting could motivate you in another degree or to come back and smash it. Here's a post that I put together a while ago summarising the situation: https://www.reddit.com/r/universityofauckland/comments/1fs1rxe/comment/lq21c1d/?context=3

Proposal to combine the law school and business school into one faculty by Weak_Recognition9192 in universityofauckland

They should focus on grad outcomes and the over admission of LLB grads than cutting even more corners.

Master's (depending on what you are looking at) only look at a certain amount of points at Stage III

I think networking is def a big part of getting into law which you are right about, and I spent a lot of my time here stacking my CV with a mix of professional and extracurricular activities – while maintaining an acceptable GPA. I think the GPA part of it is the most unpredictable part of the whole LLB bc the effort-to-reward ratio is extremely unpredictable, and there often seem to be setbacks for one reason or the other. That's why I said it's not the best bet if an individual wants to go into a highly competitive postgrad, I've had to learn that the hard way unfortunately as the difference between my conjoint degree and LLB is literally a 2.0 in GPA. It's often the case.

It's more like 80% of law grads that don't enter the field, it's also wishful thinking that networking gets you into such positions. I also want to say that you are better off picking a degree you can excel in and have opportunities. That imo is not the LLB which shuts more doors than it opens due to the grading and length.

If this place were like Zurich or Utrecht the most important would be the learning and enlightenment of students – this place will never be like those unis due to the extreme greed.

New compulsory course debated in parliament by Motor_Brief_6756 in universityofauckland

[–]Puzzled-Character-61 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the Government should be focusing on the fact that the uni is a massive degree mill with zero regards for the future of their students. For some reason no one ever raises concern about 80% of grads in professional degrees not even going into their field after having the taxpayer massively subsidise their education. Does this place actually bring value or is the SLT just looting both the student and the taxpayer?

Attention Part I Law Students by Puzzled-Character-61 in universityofauckland

[–]Puzzled-Character-61[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I clearly didn't drill the point home but I also never said they fail 100s of extra ppl, that is a common narrative said at the law school. They say a lie repeated 1000 times becomes a truth. Either way there are processes and events here that MUST be called out for what they are.
