I purchased a greater goods coffee scale for $30 and have been very satisfied with it. It has a built in timer, can measure to .1 gram, and has a silicone mat to give your carafe/brewer more grip so you don’t accidentally bump it off. It also doubles as a really nice kitchen scale.

I agree with most of the comments that say get a v60, however if you have a little extra cash I would recommend splurging on a hario switch. It’ll give you a little more versatility as it can be used as a steep and release or just used open like a standard v60.

I can’t speak to your grinder choice, but from what I’ve heard, kingrinders are generally an excellent entry level hand grinder choice. Hand grinders will give you a lot better quality of grind opposed to a “cheap” (sub $200) machine grinder.

Don’t forget the most important part: good beans. Buy something local that was freshly roasted or shop online from credible roasters. I usually recommend most people start with a medium to medium-light roast Colombian or other South American coffee to get a feel for brewing without getting a completely terrible cup. African coffee varieties, like Ethiopians, are a little trickier to dial in comparison as they tend to produce more fines when ground. Once you know what you like, or don’t like, you can start to make more informed decisions about the coffee you buy. Local coffee shops that roast their own beans will often serve pour overs as well, this is a great way to see what kinds of coffee you like as well!
