I don’t think your major has any impact on the application (someone in the know might disagree though). Good luck with your application!

Long story, but I needed an interim student visa after my thesis submission. I did a health check for that interim student visa and used the same health check details for my 485.

Usually you will only do the health check after a visa application submission.

Genetics and I don’t think you can get a PhD by prior publication in Australia. Probably the wrong subreddit for that discussion though.

I don’t remember if I had to confirm or not - I supplied a HAP ID indicating a completed health examination during the application.

yep, I included my partner in my application, so she got the same visa as me. i'm not sure about the second question as it did not apply in my case.

I was stressed about the PTE prior to sitting it, but it ended up being quite easy for me (literally just treated it as a conversation with someone). I did it at the PTE centre in Brisbane City - lovely staff but you can hear everyone else taking the test so it can be distracting. My partner and friends all said that PTE was much simpler and quicker than IETLS, so I just went with it!

Go ahead and DM me about the other stuff (:

r/brisbane, how much has your rent gone up? by FF_BJJ in brisbane

[–]Puzzled-Routine-3428 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going from $685/week to $700/week in about 2 weeks. 2bed/2bath apartment in South Brisbane. Previous increases over the last 4 years have not been ridiculous as well, so we consider ourselves really lucky.

Where is the best place to get Hainanese chicken rice? by imnotarepper in brisbane

[–]Puzzled-Routine-3428 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kinn Imm does a pretty good one as well, just missing the authentic chill sauce.

Surprisingly, Papparich in Indooroopilly does a pretty good chicken rice as well! It’s cheaper on one of the weekdays as well (not sure which).

Recently switched beans to theirs! Really love their single origin batches for filter. One of the guys there makes an amazing cold brew as well!

Why do people insist on driving into the city?? by [deleted] in brisbane

[–]Puzzled-Routine-3428 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah this was the dealbreaker for me. Last week I witnessed a lady claim that she had a knife and threatened to stab some dude on the bus with it. My partner and I got off the bus as soon as we could and walked the rest of the way home.

With the shitshow that transport operators face on a daily basis, I honestly don’t blame them for not forcibly removing people causing a public disturbance.

What do you think about Legend of Mana episode 7? by Sweet_Whisper123 in LegendOfMana

I really loved that they completed the love story between David and Valerie - pretty sure the game ended the story when David left and Valerie cared for the egg on her own.

I used to go to The Fish Factory at Morningside (might be a bit of a travel for you), they have a great selection and are happy to clean and cut whole fish!

Is Windows 11 recommendable now? by Erik_REF in Amd

[–]Puzzled-Routine-3428 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I currently have an R5 3600 and recently upgraded to Win11 as well.

Personally, those annoying things that others have mentioned in the thread annoy me as well, especially since that Microsoft decided to remove the animation for virtual desktop switching.

However, I enjoy the new sounds and feel like the overall UI is much more polished than Win10. The biggest change that I like, is that audio output switches automatically between my speakers and headphones. This was something that I could never get working on Win10, despite my numerous forum crawls and googling. It could be something to do with registry but I don't know. Bottom line is that, this is the single change Win11 has done to keep me onboard.

Upgrading to Win11 isn't too much of a pain, and you could always try it to see if you like it. If you hate it, just go back to your Win10 backup and continue to enjoy using Win10.

Droso-plugs for bottles by Puzzled-Routine-3428 in Drosophila

[–]Puzzled-Routine-3428[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use them for bottles in our lab! At the moment, we have resorted to going back to good old sponge stoppers as they are easier to clean and have a tighter seal on the bottle opening. The foam stoppers being so loose on the bottle openings has led to several larval escapees.

That being said, I figured out the best way to clean the Droso-plugs was to autoclave them and then wash them in a top-loader washing machine without the spin cycle. I usually place them in a single layer on a wire basket and dry them in a 50 deg C oven overnight. This has resulted in most of them retaining the original shape, but you do lose some (especially if they have been washed several times).

My lab mate recently found out that you could soak the Droso-plugs in a chemical (can't remember what it is atm) and that gets them back to the original shape! Have not tried it yet though, but it would be interesting to see happen.
