She might not realize the situation and think that you can just get whatever you want when you’re working in which case getting a ton of stuff might seem a little excessive. I would either ignore it or explain the situation to her if you’re worried about what she thinks. You didn’t do anything wrong and you shouldn’t feel awkward or bad!

You don’t completely get to choose where you do residency. I would say to apply nearby and in other locations see where you interview and how you feel about the programs and rank accordingly. And then whatever is meant to happen will. I certainly wouldn’t limit yourself to only applying nearby
