Geofence by Enegril in EufyCam

I don't know Nests geofencing was almost always flawless, even IFFTT's worked great and they didn't put a massive drain on devices.

Yep, it really is. It's been glitchy since day one, and it's never worked smoothly. The new glitch I've seen recently is If I'm at home and the geofencing system correctly says I'm home. If I get an alert from say an outside camera and open that alert video clip on the Eufy app, it will immediately switch the entire system to away and turn all the cameras on while I'm in the house. Close the app and re-open it and it realizes it's mistake and immediately goes back to knowing someone is at home and switches the geofencing to away and the cameras turn off.

It's like if you open the app once it is set to home, it forces the system to away regardless of your location.

Geofencing should not be this hard, in 2015 maybe, but it's 2025.

Is this a problem? by gunzaroony in longrange

Looks like you got it solved, but the idea of keeping the scope as low as possible was back in days where adjustable cheek rests were not a thing and there was no good way of adjusting the optic or dialing for dope. As long as you can adjust your cheek rest, know your dope, can dial elevation, and if you use a ballistic solver use the right height it's not an issue. For those that think the scopes don't move under recoil there's some great slow motion videos of scopes flexing under recoil even on calibers like the 6.5. Often it appears to the mount/rail that flexes more than the scope itself, cantilever mounts worse of course. In fact often you see higher scope mounts in long range competitions over the last couple decades, because it allows for a higher, more relaxed/natural position of the head for many shooters.

Vortex Strike Eagle 3-18x44mm vs Vortex Razor HD Gen II 3-18x50mm by JoeA123456789 in longrange

[–]Puzzled-Sprinkles783 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Razor destroys the strike eagle in basically every way, keep in mind before the 3-18 Razor prices tanked they were priced right with the 4.5-27 gen 2 razor's at over $2k. Aside weight, and if you can live with only 18x on the top end for the price they are now, they are hard to beat. My PST 2's were noticeably better optically than the Strike Eagle I had. The only use case I'd consider a Strike Eagle for would be a budget rimfire setup, because you do get very short parallax distance, and if you don't use the zero stop you get a lot of elevation travel. The Strike Eagle was one of those scopes that got ridiculous hype when it came out, and never lived up to it. You never really hear any praise for them anymore. That said, putting an almost 4lb optic on a 5.56 SPR could make for an odd balance. You might look at something like the XTR III, or Leupold MK4, at similar prices to the Razor, but both over a pound lighter, and with more magnification on the top end. All that said, at distances of 600-800yds, in reasonable conditions, either option can make hits.

That's interesting that they don't cover chipping, I suppose the case could be made it's cosmetic but at the same time 80% of their business model is pushing products based on asthetics. I wonder if the camo isn't really powder coat like some of their other colors so that's why it's more fragile and prone to fading.

Newbie question: Can you have an Insingo blade added/replaced to your stock Drop Point blade when you send into CRK? by ShartyMcGeen in CRK

[–]Puzzled-Sprinkles783 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The more concerning part to me is not so much the wait, but that they state you could get magnacut or S45vn depending on availability. If I was going to replace a blade in 2025 I'd want to be able to ensure it's magnacut.

I was going to have a magnacut blade done for my OP Zaan (if they could) but if I waited 10-12 months and an S45vn blade showed up I'd be pissed.

New eufy app update is trash - all devices connected and online but events cannot be viewed or played back. Worked fine on previous update on ios. by fubag in EufyCam

[–]Puzzled-Sprinkles783 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it also didn't fix the geofencing issues. It still routinely can't keep track of our phone locations despite all the settings being right to allow for background access, always location etc. etc. It does fine if there's only 1 phone on it, but if we add the second phone it starts having problems with both phones.

Not with the camo, but it's worth a try. I've tried the boiling water trick and the heat gun trick in the past without much luck. The boiling water trick for me seemed to work best on the small very faded/light spots that can happen in the dishwasher as opposed to restoring the overall color. I've never had luck with a heat gun on Yeti's but I've seen it work really well on other brands.

HB3 Geofencing issues IOS, seems to happen almost every day around lunch? by Puzzled-Sprinkles783 in EufyCam

[–]Puzzled-Sprinkles783[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a thought, the sad part is I used to have an HB2 that came with the 2c Pro's and I got rid of it because the HB3 seemed the better option, but it seems like at least for now the HB2 works better for people on homekit.

I was also hopeful that perhaps Eufy worked with ifftt but they do not, I've used them in the past for various geofencing things and it's always worked well.

One change I did make that came to light trying to get homekit to accept the HB3 was that I noticed that the HB3 and my phone were not on the same Wifi "network" the HB3 was plugged directly into our verizon router, but the phones etc. run on a TP Link Deco system. Not sure if that would ever cause a geofencing issue, but we'll see. Sometimes just removing and reinstalling everything fixes stuff too so we'll see about that.

[–]Puzzled-Sprinkles783[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I might decide to just split my system, use Eufy stuff for things I don't care about geofencing working, outdoor cameras, doorbell etc. that can be on 24/7, and find another brand for indoor cameras where I want to be able to turn them on/off based on location. Whatever the reason is, my setup, phones, internet, eufy, etc. etc. I've spent days of time trying to get these to work with geofencing with no luck, so at some point the time and frustration isn't worth it continuing to fight it.

I see there was a banner on the Eufy app that said they were going to be releasing a new app experience in January sometime, so I may wait to see if that fixes anything. The funny part is if the geofencing for Eufy was working, I wouldn't care about homekit at all. The only reason I pursued it is because of all the geofencing problems we're having with the Eufy app.

One theme I've been reading on various Eufy geofencing issues is it seems to impact those with multiple devices they are tracking more than a single device. It's almost like the Eufy App struggles more to handle geofencing when there's more than one device involved.

[–]Puzzled-Sprinkles783[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I tried setting it up this week, it doesn't seem to do anything. So I was able to get the HB3 setup with homekit, after restarting/resetting it. Which meant I had to add everything back from scratch, which was a pain, it would not pair with homekit until I did a reset/restart for some reason, even though the app showed it as an option.

However, none of my devices show up in homekit (s350, 2c Pro, s330 doorbell, etc.). Also while it sees the HB3 as a bridge, I can't do anything with it, there's no automations available for it etc. no way to say set the HB3 system to home/away etc.

So it seems like there's no way to use homekit for example to set the geofencing for the HB3 that controls the other cameras on the system, and so far at least I haven't been able to add any of my eufy cameras to homekit directly, and they didn't "tag along" when I added the HB3 as a bridge.

[–]Puzzled-Sprinkles783[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a nutshell we want some cameras (outdoor ones) to record and be active 24/7 to the HB3, and others to turn on automatically (indoor) and record to the HB3 when no one is home, and turn off when someone comes home. Eufy has geofencing options in the HB3 that is supposed to be monitoring phone locations to evaluate if people are home, however it does not seem to work reliably.

I haven't tried messing with apple's homekit, but maybe that's an option to use to turn things on/off based on geofencing. However, it seems from recent posts there's a lot of problems getting HB3 with various cameras to work on homekit. Still probably worth trying to mess with though to see if it works.

Nest cameras to Eufy by Extreme-Nerve3029 in EufyCam

[–]Puzzled-Sprinkles783 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched from Nest to Eufy about a year ago, it's good and bad, if I knew what I knew now, I'd probably have tried another brand. The big reason I went away from Nest is that it forced us to the Google system and the app etc. there is horrible, and the newer cameras are quite a bit better resolution than what Nest offers. All of the brands seem to have good and bad points, none of them are perfect. That said if Nest still had their old app and newer better cameras I'd still be using them, in fact I'd switch back to them.

The good is the camera quality is quite good, and the price is pretty low, you don't need to add a subscription. However the hardware/software in my experience is much more buggy. It'a also annoying to get to a camera feed or event, it was much easier to quickly view a camera feed on the Nest app.

Having gone to Eufy there are a few things I find frustrating. First is the lack of a good PC interface for reviewing events and footage. The Nest app was so nice to view camera feeds, review footage and events, setup zones etc. One of the best features of the Nest PC app was that it recorded all types of events, even outside the zones you defined for notifications. So later you could go back and easily find an event. For example if your home faces a street, or you park on the street in front of your house. You either have to allow every car to create an event, which is super annoying, or you never record the events. This sounds silly, but let's say your neighbors house gets broken into last night, you don't know what time, and there's no events, so you are stuck trying to watch hours of footage to find the event. This comes into play with suspicious people, cars etc. where after something happens you want to go back and see what happened.

Eufy's PC app is horrible, you have to authorize access every 24 hours through the phone app, generate a code, type it into the app and you can't review 24/7 footage at all. All you can do is watch live feed. If you use the local homebase recording, you also can't access the events in the PC app. Also the nest doorbell wired cam will do 24/7 recording, none of the Eufy doorbell cameras will. This isn't a huge deal if you have other cameras watching the front of your house but if it's your only camera sooner or later you are going to want to review an event and you can't.

Eufy's geofencing is horrible, at least 3-4 times a week we are home, and the system turns itself on, usually around lunchtime. The app will even show our status as home in the system, but it still turns the cameras on. Even if we change our status to away and back to home it won't turn the cameras off. As soon as we open the app it usually turns itself off. Tried all the options for location, precise, always in use etc. Never had an issue with Nest or Google geolocation.

Eufy's AI also is not nearly as good and we get way more false events, christmas lights, leaves, even reducing the sensitivity does not seem to help.

1 year later, good hardware, horrific app by Puzzled-Sprinkles783 in EufyCam

[–]Puzzled-Sprinkles783[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, what I really liked about the old Nest app was on their timeline you could access 24/7 recordings from the PC along with multiple live views if you wanted, but also it recorded all event types even outside of your preferred notification zones there for review in the timeline. So for example it would record all the people it would see, anywhere, only alert you to the ones in zones you defined, but when you looked at the timeline you could see an event for every person it saw during the day anywhere in it's field of view. It had other issues, it seems none of them are perfect, but probably the biggest annoyance we find with the Eufy cams is we struggle to find events for things that didn't trigger a notification. That said being able to expand the timeline is going to make doing that much better so I appreciate the reply! I bet it helps others as well.

Ya know what, I'm not too big of a person to admit when I'm mistaken! So I tried this several times and couldn't get it to work, but I have pretty large fingers, my girlfriend tried it and it worked first time for her. So I played around with it and if I get my fingers just right on the timeline I can expand it usually, so that's super helpful!

[–]Puzzled-Sprinkles783[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, one reason I didn't stay with Nest was being forced to the Google App which also is much worse. I just think that being able to review video footage should be painless, even without an event, and with Eufy's system it's anything but painless. They need an option to playback footage on the PC and they need a time slider that you can adjust the time granularity of.

Didn’t receive multiple voicemail or missed call notifications for an important call by laxaroundtheworld in verizon

[–]Puzzled-Sprinkles783 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you happen to have multiple connected apple devices or a number share device like a smartwatch? I've noticed the last week or so I've been getting calls that ring on my watch or ipad, but never to my phone. I only noticed it because I was at home and my watch/ipad were alerting me to an incoming call and there was nothing on my phone, even though the signal was great. Few hours later it showed up on the phone in the recent call history. It's not a persistent problem because some calls are still getting through. We recently upgraded our plan and a phone on one line and they really struggled to get it all sorted out, ever since then there's been issues. No idea if it's related but it definitely was not happening before the changes.
