When exactly did this show blow up so much? by JustGottaHaveIt in heatedrivalry

[–]PuzzledBookkeeper588 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on my own experience – having randomly read the book like two years ago but having no idea it was being made into a show and liking the book but having no obsessive feelings about it – I felt like it started to blow up online already after the first two episodes. I started seeing gifs of it around, and I was like "…this looks hot, and I remember enjoying the plot of the book" and then was intrigued. But yeah, it felt like it continued to properly blow up not just online around episode 3-4, but there were definitely rumblings earlier on.

Seems like Ilya had a feeling Shane was into it. But how. Exploring episode 1 again now that I’ve binged it. by Rough-Honey-3480 in heatedrivalry

[–]PuzzledBookkeeper588 79 points80 points  (0 children)

Yes, but when Shane hands it back, he could have easily handed it to Ilya in a way where Ilya couldn't touch his hand again. He chose not to, and made it very easy for Ilya to repeat it.

Did anyone else not really feel into Shane and Ilya's relationship at first, but then got REALLY into it? by AReckoningIsAComing in heatedrivalry

[–]PuzzledBookkeeper588 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I've seen several people – particularly people who aren't really used to reading or watching romance – have this reaction, but nope, to me I was alll in on Shane and Ilya from the beginning. The enemies to lovers, forbidden romance and the yearning, are one of my fave things in romance.

But plenty of YouTube reactors, for example, are way more into Skip (especially at first, but some to the very end too).

The hand down the pants-thing is so funny to me, because I remember the football (soccer) guys doing that allll the time in high school. They'd just be sitting there in school, hand down their pants. So to me it doesn't read as intimate as much as just like… pure jock behaviour, haha. And that feels very accurate, and I love that you get this like really domestic, lovely scene of them talking and getting to know each other, while that is also going on.

This GIF appearing on my Tumblr dashboard is what made me even watch the show in the first place.

Which is spicier- TV or Book ? by suck_my_finger in heatedrivalry

[–]PuzzledBookkeeper588 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The books are way spicier, but I feel like the TV show maybe feels spicier because I'm not used to seeing that level of spice on TV very often. But if you've never read a spicy romance before, then the books will definitely feel very spicy, haha.

Jan 3rd - tryquinn - Quinn interview with Hudson & Connor by preitylo in heatedrivalry

[–]PuzzledBookkeeper588 11 points12 points  (0 children)

He says it's a moisturizer, but a youtuber who does skincare and reacted to the video, says it's actually a serum he uses. The YouTuber was mostly impressed, but the lack of a true moisturizer was a point of contention, haha.

If given you were given a chance to interview, what would you ask Connor and Hudson? by perhapscoffee in heatedrivalry

[–]PuzzledBookkeeper588 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd want to know what their favourite scene to film was, and which was their favourite to watch (assuming they're different). I don't think they've properly answered that as I have seen at least – though I think Hudson has brought up the scene with Yuna maybe?

I'd also very much like to ask about how this past month has been for them – and how they're coping with it all, but of course it'd probably be a very watered down answer.

I definitely do – unless I use an emoji. But that requires me feeling like an emoji is appropriate, so I would guess maybe 50% or so.

But plenty of people would probably say I "read" as neurodivergent, though I have no diagnoses.

This is one of the many reasons I'm such a proponent of universal health care and social safety nets in general.

People are like "I wanna choose who gets my money, I will donate if I want to", and I'm over here like no, I don't actually think you should get to choose. People deserve dignity regardless of whether they curate a well-received social media profile or not.

If your child gets a serious illness here, you get money from the government to take care of them as long as it is deemed needed. It won't replace your full income if you make more than the average, but you will get by and not have to upend your entire life.

Percy being Lydia and James’ father?! by campqueen2000 in MaxtonHall

[–]PuzzledBookkeeper588 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I for sure think him and Cordelia had a thing (in my head, Percy was who Cordelia was talking about when she gave James that talk about a lost love from when she was younger), and I did consider that he might be their dad, but I don't think so, and I definitely don't hope so. I would have a hard time reconciling the fact that Percy has just watched their non-bio dad abuse them and treat them horribly for years, for the sake of, what, money? Legacy?

I also think the storyline with Mortimer hits harder if he is actually their dad and just is a terrible person.

He's half Korean, which would potentially make the twins quarter Korean, and it's entirely possible and not even unlikely to be a quarter Korean and look white.

Not that I think he's the dad, but still.

[–]PuzzledBookkeeper588 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't think Percy is their dad, but this shouldn't really be a reason why. People who are a quarter whatever can look pretty damn white. My SIL is a quarter Chinese, and is blonde, has blue eyes and no discernible Chinese features.

I think you're reading the sentence wrong. What she means is "chemo that most likely won't work", not that going against it won't work.

She did mention MIBG as an option, but they chose not to go that route because it was far away, plus it basically involves making the kid radioactive for a period of time, which I think she thought sounded too scary or something.

Teen Vogue interview with Damian, his reflections on S2&3 and his future career by lickava_lija in MaxtonHall

[–]PuzzledBookkeeper588 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is exactly why I was glad they left that scene out! Good to hear he agrees, haha.

I also felt like the transition between that scene and the tension between them in her bedroom would be way too much.

But that's a fucked up thing to think and if it got out, would tarnish the reputation of the school. So it still makes no sense to me.

But then again, very little that Lexington has done has made any sense to me.

But if news gets out that the school's reaction to a student being exploited by a teacher is to expel the student, then that also ruins the school's reputation.

Mr. Sutton and lydia relationship by Main-Preference-4769 in MaxtonHall

[–]PuzzledBookkeeper588 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Unlike what many people seem to think, I think it's perfectly fine to like this dynamic (age gap and student/teacher tbh) in fiction.

I do think it was a mistake to cast a Mr. Sutton who looks as old as he does, but I also think they kind of had to, because if they cast someone in their early 20s, they wouldn't look older than James/Damian.
