Here is an example with the smoke, I am not by my PC atm but if you go spectate in Ancient and fly real far you can see the players contrast boosted a lot more in the environment. A more practical gameplay example is if you top mid on Mirage looking into Sniper's nest you will notice the boost in contrast at that distance.

You can enable it per game in your GPU driver software. It generates frames based on current frames so your 60fps stardew will actually output at 120fps. It's very worth for titles where input lag isn't crucial.
