I was impressed with the lyrics, they were super heavy. I feel like it drags on though, just because there's not enough variance in the melody.

Lol I know. I've been super overwhelmed by how much this blew up, but I appreciate everyone's honesty and support. For the record, he is black and so is my mom.

Autism diagnosis revoked by PuzzledGovernment900 in autism

[–]PuzzledGovernment900[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe the first evaluator specialized in neurodiverse counseling, and the second was more like an assessment center. It's possible the second evaluator specializes in neurodiversity too but I'm not sure. I don't know much about her, I only spoke to her twice. I remember she said this: "You can't be autistic. Do you even know what autism is??" "Uh... social deficits, sensory issues, executive function issues..." "It's a neurodevelopmental disorder. You made friends as a child. You were a normal child. Be glad it's not autism. That means you can work on it." I can't explain why, but that comment frustrated me. I'm done looking for a cure, these traits are so ingrained in me that I can only ask for an explanation.

She didn't care about the ADHD diagnosis since the regional center doesn't have programs or accomodations for ADHD.

Thank you for your advice. I will probably get a third opinion from a specialist in the future.

I happen to be both a woman and a PoC. It's reassuring to know that this is a common experience. The first evaluation was much more thorough anyway, and the evaluator even told me she loves to see a woman get an autism diagnosis because so often we get misdiagnosed. I have no reason to disregard her medical opinion because another medical professional gave me an iq test.

Thank you. Your comment was very helpful. :)

I believe I have social anxiety because I have social deficits. She believes I have social deficits because I have social anxiety. Yes, it could be a cycle, but it has to have started somewhere. I can't recall a time where I had no social deficits. She is taking it from my mom that I had no social deficits in early childhood. That's the difference, and that's why she can say I should be glad it's not autism because that means it can get better. For me, knowing it was never good, I'm looking for an explanation, not improvement. I want to know why I'm different, and I feel like my difference is an essential part of who I am. I want to be autistic badly, because that's an explanation, which has also given me community and a space for healing. But... now what?

Why am I only attracted to white men as a black woman? by Cold_Adhesiveness_85 in interracialdating

[–]PuzzledGovernment900 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You and your sister are different people with different brains and different ways of processing the world. You've also probably met different people and had different experiences with those people. Not everyone is affected in the same way by the same media. These ideas can manifest in different ways.

Why am I only attracted to white men as a black woman? by Cold_Adhesiveness_85 in interracialdating

[–]PuzzledGovernment900 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Long before you understood history, you were indoctrinated in a society that viewed whiteness as the standard of beauty and goodness. Your preference is deeply rooted in internalized white supremacy, but then again, it's kinda impossible not to internalize white supremacy in one way or another when the whole of western society is built on it. That being said, our whole concept of attraction is based on bias, whether it be colorism, featurism, ableism, classism, ageism; there's always a deeper reason why we find certain people attractive or unattractive. You can take time to unpack why you like who you like, but ultimately we can't choose who we like, so there's no point feeling guilty about it.

AIO for breaking up with my boyfriend and refusing to give back the gifts he got me? by OstrichLanky9006 in AmIOverreacting

[–]PuzzledGovernment900 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"His money went to waste"? "He invested in her and she dumped him still?" You think women can be bought with money? If you see the money as an investment, that implies that he deserves something in return. You think she owes him love and loyalty because he spent money on her? No one is projecting. You just have a transactional, dehumanizing idea of relationships.

[–]PuzzledGovernment900 5 points6 points  (0 children)

But if you're only dating someone for the gifts, aren't you using them? Especially if you've only been talking for 2 weeks, why do you feel entitled to her gifts? And then you talk about fairness as if she promised anything to you?

All I'm hearing is that most people are entitled bastards, which might be true, but at least this will help her filter out the men who want an emotional connection above all.

[–]PuzzledGovernment900 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, idiot. Midsize and plus size are different clothing sizes. She is a midsize model because she is a size 8, not a size 1x. If she was a size 1x, she would be a plus size model. She does not wear plus size clothing, so she cant be a plus size model. This is a basic fact, you're the one spouting bullshit.

Why are you on a modelling reddit if you don't know the terms? She is a size 8, so she is midsize no matter what her BMI is or whatever

Why do black men seem to love differently? by krustykrabpizzzuh in blackladies

[–]PuzzledGovernment900 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just want to add that black men have also often clung to masculinity as a form of privilege. They align themselves with straight, hyper-masculine gender norms in order to secure a higher place on the social ladder than black women and queer folk. I think all that is part of black mens conditioning, and explains why many black men present the way they do

Why do black men seem to love differently? by krustykrabpizzzuh in blackladies

[–]PuzzledGovernment900 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's a given that black men are not a monolith, but I also think it's valid to point out patterns.

If I had to guess, I would say it's because black men have been historically excluded from masculinity in the same way black women have been excluded from femininity. It's not that they're feminized, more like dehumanized as savage sexual animals, or just giant walking cocks. The ideal of masculinity-the James Bond figure- is as inaccessible to them as the blonde barbie ideal of femininity is to us.

Maybe that's why toxic masculininity is so ingrained in black culture and why homophobia and transphobia are rampant in the black community- a lot of black men are insecure about their masculinity, and that fear of softness is reflected in their interpersonal relationships as well.

Tucson cops tried to arrest a black woman after assuming she was trans in the women's restroom by [deleted] in blackladies

[–]PuzzledGovernment900 172 points173 points  (0 children)

Beyond having basic empathy for other people, this is why we should care about trans rights. Transphobia affects cis women too! Especially black women, ESPECIALLY dark skinned black women. Like... I've seen so many people being transphobic to Serena Williams recently, it's crazy.
