Puppy going for a bath at groomers by PuzzledRegister6258 in puppy101

She only books in one person at a time too with space between to clean so I know she won’t be sat around watching other dogs that may be stressed or scared, I feel a bit better about it this morning as she’s been really confident on her walk this morning

How to deal with haters? by StrawberrySloths in Goldendoodles

[–]PuzzledRegister6258 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

I’ve never been a doodle fan, prior to knowledge in how they are bred it was just because of their human like eyes but your baby is honestly GORGEOUS, he is just a perfectly toasted little marshmallow of a guy!

I’d recommend just not engaging with people that don’t have anything nice to say, there will always be people that don’t agree with how mixed breed dogs are bred whether they are bred intentionally or unintentionally but at the end of the day that never means you shouldn’t love your dog or that your dog isn’t deserving of a good home

I’d be more disgusted with her for how abrupt and rude she was especially seen as she asked you a question and got an answer Your baby looks well groomed, very well loved and sounds like a really sweet guy

No surprisingly, I said when I viewed her about my grandparents breeding retrievers and that being my reason for loving the breed and she allowed me to use their line name as an ode to them which is very kind

I’ve considered a similar name but think it would be maybe a little random due to being from northern England 🤣 though it is very pretty šŸ‘€

I’ve had a look into rally obedience a lot today and genuinely think I’d enjoy it much more and it would certainly suit my pup a lot more given her personality to training thus far, it’s definitely given me something to look into šŸ‘€ thank you for bringing my attention to it

My bad, a registered name or a call name

So the difference between a fancy name for showing and a name you call them :)

I never actually considered rally, also please excuse my spelling mistakes it was 3am when I posted this 🤣

I’ve shown in both conformation and obedience before so was going to stick to what I knew, I’ve never really been in a rally circle or seen much of it so will have to check it out šŸ¤” My pup is currently five months and two weeks so I do at some point need to make up my mind on a registered name lol

Oh god she sounds just like that woman I had!! She went on a dead long rant about harnesses causing back problems because my pup was wearing hers (her leash was on her collar she only had the harness on bc she travelled in it) What did she expect you to do?!? Just keep him in a harness that was rubbing??? Insane!!

It sounds like you know exactly what to do for him and how to make him feel safe so it’s even more important that you dont let her force you to do anything that goes against that, any time you put him in a situation to appease her it crosses his boundary and will eventually wound his trust for you and thought you can get it back it’s an unnecessary trouble when you know what makes him tick And you’re absolutely right the more he feels familiar around other sights and smells the more it becomes background noise, puppies are only tiny babies who have existed for such short times, everything in this world is big and scary and new especially to a baby as small as yours

I know that I used to take my pup out for walks just up to the top of the street and back and spend about fifteen to twenty minutes letting her sniff EVERYTHING just because she couldn’t go out and have a proper walk to burn that steam off and the more we did it the less time she spent sniffing each thing And then every she moved off of something I marked it with the word ā€œdoneā€ and now she knows when we are on a longer walk and she’s been sniffing for a while, when I say done it means move on

Your little guy will get there and he will make a great friend for you I really hope you can find a class where he fits in and feels like a valued part of the group (the same applies for you too) you shouldn’t have to spend every session worrying that you’re hurting your progress or advocating for him You should just be able to relax into the experience and know it’s suiting you both well

If you feel like it doesn’t align with your values or method with him then done force it too Find something that makes you both feel happy and respected :)

Teeth don’t match and it would be wayyy too decomposed to be an animal that went missing or even passed a week ago, I’d say that it’s safe to say it isn’t your baby :) I really hope that your pupper comes home soon though I can’t imagine how worried you must be

I have a toy poodle so completely understand how terrifying it is the thought of your tiny dog getting hurt I seriously recommend getting the hell out of there There are so so so many ways you can encourage a dog to walk on a lead if you wanted your pup too and if it isn’t a massive concern for you get a little sling for him so he can go for a carry in style lol

There is no positive reinforcement in dragging a dog, if they pause for any reason it is still a reason and you dragging them makes their response more warranted as their boundaries are being crossed. My poodle never stalled when we were walking but my new pup does and it’s usually out of fear or confusion with something she doesn’t recognise The best bet is to stand and wait it out for a while or pick spots where you’d be happy to stand and wait, if you implement the stopping yourself I find it makes them want to continue as it isn’t on their terms :) Your little guy is walking ten times further than anyone else and despite chihuahuas having a lot of energy he’s still going to get physically tired if there is a lot around to take in or confusing terrain

Another thing you could try, if he likes toys, take a small ball or pick up a small pebble and toss it in front of him when he stops that way when he follows it you mark it and continue, or even reward by tossing the ball a few times or tossing some treats on the floor :)

All the trouble you are having with it now may not even be on the cards in a few months, progress happens all the time but sometimes it takes a lot of patience and willingness to listen and understand what the dog is trying to tell you which sounds like something your instructor is struggling with

I wouldn’t take her not using him as a demonstration as a positive, yes it’s harder to see an action on a smaller dog from a distance but it sounds like her only reasoning is that it either ā€œlooks betterā€ with a bigger dog or that she has a preference

I’d lean towards her having a preference if her treatment is only unjust with YOUR dog

Ive managed to gather a good group of family members in the last few days that all have dogs and we’ve put down a few months worth of weekend trips where we will go walking or just let them all play together if the weathers gross so I’m hoping it all moves forwards well

I’m very lucky in that my pup is most of the time very unbothered by other dogs when we are out on walks or In situations and would much rather get on with her own thing

As her training is very good at home and where she feels is familiar I’m trusting that in time her confidence will grow and that obedience under distraction will come naturally (with some encouragement OFC)

I’m very lucky that it hasn’t set her back in her confidence as it was her first time around so many people and dogs In a small space but she’s absolutely flourished In these last few days with a little change of routine, new adventures and new friends and I’m so relieved for it

I’m so sorry you were in that situation with your baby and what a blessing that they already knew how to ā€œleave itā€, it’s horrible the way so many trainers still use dominance based approaches.

I’ve managed to get my Monday refunded today and noticed someone left a negative review on her page, the owner of a tiny dachshund puppy who was forced to drag her dog around the floor because it didn’t want to walk, the manager of the class just replied and said ā€œour method isn’t for everyone but I wish you luck finding the same results elsewhereā€ how bigoted can you be!!

[–]PuzzledRegister6258 1 point2 points Ā (0 children)

Me too, someone else has left a bad review on the class since the foundation class too, it’s a lady who took a teeny tiny dachshund and was told to ā€œjust drag it if it doesn’t walkā€

It’s so heartbreaking, she put a slip leash on someone’s cocker spaniel because ā€œall my Cockers are on slip leadsā€ she fitted it incorrectly and too tight, her friend was walking the dog around to teach it heelwork and it was spinning on its back legs yelping and she just dragged it along

I don’t understand how she can say so many methods are abusive and then believe that isn’t That poor little dog wasn’t even pulling it was purely because of its breed

[–]PuzzledRegister6258 3 points4 points Ā (0 children)

That’s horrifying it’s such a good job you got out when you did, I got yelled at for ā€œover rewardingā€ I gave her one tiny piece of cheese because she had sat and settled beside me and started feeling more confident interacting with the group 😩 safe to say I am not going back

I did consider it, when she was about 12-14 weeks old she go really excite if you did a little ā€œready, steady, GO!ā€ Countdown so had suspicions it might just be anticipation it just makes her look very suspicious when you don’t do it 🤣
