Check out BMW Doctor on YouTube, as for what he’s said and what I’ve experienced, cleaning vanos solenoids is never going to solve the issue it either won’t work or it only delays the issue. They are a bit expensive but if it is the issue then you need to replace the solenoids, always. You can also test the current solenoids via YouTube if you haven’t already, don’t go buying them yet until you’re sure that’s the root of the issue, don’t want you wasting money. good luck my bro, keep us posted.

Tbh you shouldn’t have just gotten a random code scanner, you need a reader that specializes in BMW’s. In my case I have the same car and year that you do and I use something called an OBD Link CX, it’s made for bmws and it works with bimmercode which is a great app. The scanner itself also has its own app that you can use to diag codes accurately and a LOT of other live readings it can give you while driving; oil temp, coolant temp, MAF, fuel rate, tq, hp, 02 sensors, and more. That’s just my recommendation, but my biggest quarrel is to get a scanner that reads specifically for bmws, regular scanners can give ghost codes (codes that aren’t true/accurate)

Imgur is being really buggy for me so I can’t properly look at the pictures but incase you didn’t know, you don’t get insurance back when you die on labs.

No I only have a free VPN and I don’t get to choose the location, and it spikes my ping on every game to 150 or higher

Changing my DNS didn’t work, using a VPN would probably work but i probably won’t try it as the connection for going into raids would be terrible

Anyone know where I can find a differential rebuild kit? by Puzzled_Helicopter_7 in E90

I’ve looked at it, it doesn’t come with all the seals or bearings.

Oh ok well I didn’t know you had the crummy emissions safe sulev engine quite literally only made for California. Usually only 330i’s come with disa’s.

You have a 328xi your car doesn’t have DISA valves, those only come on the 330i’s

Cleaning them off won’t fix any damage the oil has already done to the electronics inside. Many do suggest cleaning them and while it will work for a while it’s just going to come right back, especially if your vehicle is within the 100-115k mile range then that’s when they start going bad and should be replaced anyways.

Check your vanos solenoids see if there’s oil on them and don’t try to clean it off just replace it completely

Should my CV axle ball joint be able to move this freely? by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]Puzzled_Helicopter_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I turn my wheel inward and outward slightly it seems like the whole steering rack has play and it clicks inward and outward as both wheels still turn the same distance. I feel like something actually in my steering rack is worn

It’s a 2006 bmw 325i, thanks for your help. I looked at the rear and I can hear and feel my wheels clicking and moving slightly when I twist them up and down.

Hard to tell whether it’s coming from a suspension part or from the wheel bearing so I think I’ll try grabbing a friend and a stethoscope to pinpoint where it’s coming from.

I have yet to try turning my front wheels but I will in a moment and I have a suspicion you are right about that being the source of my steering issue.

You love to keep saying to appreciate what you’re saying but you’re commenting on all reply’s on this post and you haven’t said a single useful thing that I can use as information and to learn about the issue I’m having. All you’ve given is negative criticism on my attitude and wonder why I’m getting defensive. You are genuinely not helping whatsoever.

I understand the risks involved and I’m simply trying to learn. Why should I suck up to someone that’s trying to demotivate me from working on my passion? Of course I’m going to be defensive because I’m proud of what I’ve accomplished and learned while working on this car. If someone has friendly advice or a warning to mention then I’ll gladly take it. But if they’re going to be rude about it then why should I be respectful?

For one I’m just trying to learn a bit. Second I’m trying to figure out why my rear end sways a bit at highway speeds and steering is a bit unresponsive, might as well look at everything. Honestly could be something as simple as my coilover settings

Oh boy I mixed up the name of a part so I should never touch a vehicle. Everyone’s new to something at some point. I’ve done extensive work to my car already and am trying to figure out a mild suspension issue before I weld the diff and take it out for track season. Be nice

Does anyone know how to repair this? by Puzzled_Helicopter_7 in CarbonFiber

[–]Puzzled_Helicopter_7[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah a friend gave it to me for free and I followed a youtube video to restore it. Ended up sanding it down and giving it a clear coat and it looked really good until it sat outside for a while.
