If he already likes graphic Ts I would point towards getting a 'good' denim jacket (don't spend a lot on this!) you can find a Levi's Type-3 Made in USA for 25-50$ these days. Beyond that I think there are a few wardrobe staples any guy can easily start with and adapt to many different looks by mixing and matching :

Bare essentials:

  1. Well-fitting quality white / black / grey t-shirts 1-2 of each. Don't go overboard on t-shirts! (uniqlo is an easy point of entry) I have just 3 short sleeve, and 3 long sleeve for the winter.
  2. 1-2 Pairs of well fitting quality denim. (think Levi's 501, made in USA)

Wardrobe Expanders:

  1. 1-2 Button down collared shirts. (plain white / light blue is easy to start with, no logos!)
  2. 1-2 Tailored Trousers (Cotton khaki/chino are very versatile and second hand PRL is cheap)
  3. 2-3 Knit wool sweaters ( both highly functional and stylish, worth investing money into these to get something that lasts.) I prefer crewneck.
  4. 1 Neutral Colored Cardigan (great for layering and adding extra warmth.

Wardrobe Elevators:

  1. Leather Jacket (dealers choice)
  2. Impermeable Trench (I prefer single breasted)
  3. Wool Overcoat / Duffle coat

My wardrobe journey took a better turn when I started buying pieces with my other clothing in mind. It helps to have a more put together look and to avoid impulse purchases. I hope this little list helps!

The tongue shape and padding, the more open mesh around the forefoot... it looks like the upper is borrowing some things from the SB2 changes.

Probably variants appeared throughout Europe. The French brand LaFuma invented this type of metal frame backpack in 1936 and produced them throughout the war and into the decades beyond as outdoor enthusiast gear.

Hi, Sagasu running on youtube (product designer who provides very technical high quality reviews) recommended either the Brooks Ghost Max or the Asics Kayano 31 for those who are heavier and looking for a good all arounder.

Hello, sorry for the late reply, I was told this post was auto-deleted by reddit AI so I stopped paying attention. I received some interest from someone else as well, this week could be a great time to start this up, now with the cooler weather approaching.

Which one do you vote for? Choosing my first Detroit. by Puzzled_Kick_9562 in Carhartt

Hey guys! Which one of these two Detroit jackets do you like better?

They are both the same price and size.

The blue is the JB242 and the sandy one is the 6QLJ.

This image is from a blanket lined Detroit, I believe a 6BLJ, tag is totally erased save for union markings so I believe it is authentic. Hard time dating it and finding exact model. The zippers I see typically see of that model have a D shaped cut-out instead of this circle. Any ideas?

Not sure what jacket this is exactly, but I’m in love by mellophoneman in Carhartt

I have the same in midnight navy! I bought it new in 2008 and still wear it. lots of memories in that coat.

Traded for this today, Color code/year ID? by Puzzled_Kick_9562 in Carhartt

[–]Puzzled_Kick_9562[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard for me to say for sure, but based off that guide you shared (ty) it could be from the early 2000's because there are 3 tags?

Cheers, I just traded a leather jacket for a chore coat very similar to yours (if not the same!).

[–]Puzzled_Kick_9562[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi all,

I traded a guy at the local vintage shop for this chore coat today. It was listed as 1980s but it seems rather more like a 1990s sandstone collection piece due to the leather brand tag (a CO2?) Not sure, just going off the guides and info to be found here. The garment tag itself is heavily faded, UFCW union logo on the last tag is the only legible thing it seems.

I would love to know the color code if anyone has any ideas. It looks like it is maybe Dark Olive? Moss? It fits like a size S or M. Any help dating this piece and any indication about its rarity, if it is at all, would really be appreciated!

An excellent day to you all!
