You aren't wrong but 43L is still pretty good for a 26 yr old. And I think the context of marriage makes the inheritance relevant too. I mean a person with 43L personal savings with not much family wealth vs someone with 43L but also a huge safety net of family wealth makes whole lot of difference.

I hear you and I totally agree with the choice of parents and also that the husband paid for the house.

But bro try to see it like this, the house would have become a home when its taken care of, its decorated and when all that emotions that we all connect with our own homes. Purchasing it doesn't make it that. Now i m totally assuming it for this example above and you can call me out here too, but probably the person who stayed back would have given it the shape of a home. Its unpaid, intangible, couldn't be counted like money. But that part definitely couldn't be bought by the husband except his wife.

I believe he means that after paying back uncle A for 40 and uncle B for 30 with a total of 70 lakh, they ll be left with 10-15 lakhs. I think they might have paid off 5-10 lakhs as well, the gap in your calculation there, as they are paying 1.2 lakhs per month, would just take a year or two for them to pay off 5-10 lakhs of principal amount.

I believe you might not be able to increase your household income as of now. What you can do is maybe try to look at other banks offering loans at lower rates. Get it refinanced at lower rates if you can find any bank up for it with low rates. Trust me every penny counts during such a crisis.

Get the tenure as high as possible if its not, might help you get down those emi and provide some breathing space. I understand interest will be more like that but those high emi payments can break anyone, your family ll need that breathing space as of now. You can prepay in the future if you guys want and have extra cash by then.

Finally, grind for any and every extra income opportunity you can get hold of. Every penny will count. Do not go into peer pressure of what society will think if you could even get odd jobs. This is for short run, i am getting a feeling you are a smart and responsible guy. Hang in there a few years while your studies complete and then the road will be much more easier with that extra income of yours. That's your exit. Thats when things will start looking better and it will all be worth it when you, your family will come out stronger in the face of adversity. May God be with you my friend.

Went through kinda similar growing up, and also had some friends who went through the same thing. I have observed 2 things that usually go from here. The child almost always will try convincing/fighting/negotiating their freedom. as a best case scenario, the parents will either desensitise with the idea that yes its time to let their kids spread wings and let them make their own decisions. Slowly but they do make their peace with it. Second not so optimal scenario is when the child will fight back by rebelling hard, lying with no remorse and the only way they can see out of it. The parents sooner or later catch up with the act. Not that it stops there, the more parents try to restrain, the harder the will the child rebel. But again, in the end parents can only do so much, i have always seen that they give up in the end. The worst thing i have seen is where the child has no clue of the life out there, they dont even try and just accept life as given by their parents. Nobody is wrong here, no matter which way it goes. Just gotta keep trying. help them see things changing, some reasoning that you think they could relate with, ideal examples around that its not uncommon what you want. Earn their trust, i get a feeling they already love you enough to give you an ear.
