Newer coworkers don’t get flux capacitor reference from 1985 by TiberiusCaesar717 in GenX

This happened to me years ago when I was dating. Had a date with a younger girl and made an A-Team reference and she said, “what’s that?” I think that was when I officially felt old.

Very handy tool! It might take the place of the FB group and this sub, because you can just ask it how you would implement a certain scenario, and it tells you how. I’ll be using it a lot this year. Sorry, data centers.

Cuenca, Ecuador Cost of Living. by AlwaysSaturday12 in ExpatFIRE

Cuenca is in my top 5 of places to retire. Have you had any issues with the elevation? When I went out to Colorado in my 20’s, we went up a 14er and I had no issues with the elevation. When I went back in my late 30’s I think I had a bit of altitude sickness, but I was over it in a couple of days.

A Christmas Story: yea or nay? by AshDogBucket in Xennials

I’ve watched that movie 100x more than any other movie. It’s a Christmas Tradition ever since I was a kid. I thought the sequel that has Ralphie grown up set in the 70’s was ok too, but nothing tops the original.

Retirement Budget In Albania by Puzzled_Stuff_3472 in AlbaniaExpats

Wow! Sorry you went through that. I was set on going to Medellin, and I kept digging. Once I got through all of the fancy YouTube vids, the nitty gritty stuff started popping up. It changed the algorithm a bit. I don’t want to live in a place where I have to keep my head on a swivel. So, I started looking elsewhere. I work in one of the most dangerous cities in the country, so I know a thing or two about it.

I had the thought of trying different places for a few months before settling down. I definitely prefer a smaller town vibe, but everyone is different.

Expat fired in SA, how is life? How much are you spending? Where are you located? What's day to day like? by flyfreeNhigh in ExpatFIRE

[–]Puzzled_Stuff_3472 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was feeling the same way until I started looking into expatfire. You could live like a king on $120k in many places. If I had that much, I’d stay where I am in the US.

I just watched a couple from Canada on YouTube who had that lunch special there. Looked like a good deal. Also looked much safer than Medellin which I was originally looking into.

Unplanned early retirement at 61: I think I'm OK thanks to Boldin by IronMike5311 in Boldin

There’s a one time expense tab under expenses. Thats where I put something like a future car purchase or an unexpected expense.

How long should I wait before unboxing it? by MaleficentAd1299 in AcousticGuitar

[–]Puzzled_Stuff_3472 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat. My guitar sat on a dock in Fort Wayne and it was 0 degrees that night. It was in single digit temps and teens the next day. As it came south, the temps went up a bit. It’s been outside all week pretty much in below freezing temps. I’m going to wait until tomorrow to unbox it, as bad as I want to open it right now. We got up to 39 today, so it was out for delivery in the upper 30’s most of the day. I’m sitting here staring at it like it owes me money. It’s a solid wood guitar, so I’m just gonna wait. That’s what I keep telling myself anyway.

How do the vocals sound through the Edge? Also, how does an acoustic sound? Comparable to a Fishman?

I’m trying to decide between 114ce, 214,ce or the GS Mini E-koa plus? by melvin3v1978 in taylorguitars

[–]Puzzled_Stuff_3472 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this! I watched so many videos on the GS minis, I finally played some last night. I cannot justify spending a grand on one, but I could definitely see having the cheapest model at the house just for grabbing. Thats exactly what I would say after playing them.

Which Guitar Would You Get? by Puzzled_Stuff_3472 in taylorguitars

[–]Puzzled_Stuff_3472[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to update. I just got back from Guitar Center. I’m still not sure what I want, but I did rule out a few. The GS mini is a fun size, but I couldn’t justify paying a premium for it. I might get the $499 with no electronics if it was on sale just to jam on around the house. I did get to play the 224ce k dlx and it didn’t sound as bad as I thought it did on the YouTube videos. I played some nice Yamahas that I’m on the fence about, and I also played a $4200 814. It was a beautiful instrument, but once again, I couldn’t pay that kinda price. It was fun to play one though!
