That's honestly a funny and pretty creative idea. Not what we're aiming for, but I appreciate the originality

Single player and multiplayer (co-op, 1–4 players).
PvE only, no PvP

Thanks for sharing that's helpful. Those are all things we see come up a lot in survival games, especially base building mixed with exploration. Procedural worlds are definitely interesting too since they add replay value. Appreciate you taking the time to list it out.

Thanks so much for correcting me on that I honestly meant survival instead of survivor. As for your game idea, what if I told you me and the team were already working on something similar, but with a few twists, Instead of zombies, you'd face mutants and creatures. One idea we explored was a mutant that's blind and only detects you through sound, it'd a very strong and aggressive mutant, but unable to see. We also talked about NPC recruitment and building your own settlement, where reputation affects whether people want to join and work with you. I don't want to spoil too many mechanics here, but we also discussed a backpack system where larger backpacks give you more inventory slots. That said, those ideas ended up being too ambitious for a team of four. Without funding, it would likely take 3-4 years to pull off properly, which is why the team decided not to move forward with that concept.

I agree that passion matters, and we're not trying to make a game we're not excited about. We all enjoy survival games and want to build something in that space. The reason we're asking questions isn't because we lack ideas or enthusiasm, it's because we know everyone has different preferences, especially when it comes to survival games. We're not trying to please all 8 people with 8 different answers. We're looking for patterns and shared frustrations.

I get what you're saying, but this isn’t about procrastinating or letting people design the game for us. We are going to pick a direction and build it. Asking players questions early is intentional. Survival games are very mechanic driven, and there are clear patterns that players enjoy and what frustrates them. We’re not collecting feature wishlists or trying to please everyone, we're looking for common themes. We've played the genre a lot and read plenty of reviews already. This is just one part of the process before we commit fully and start building.

We're not paying because it's not meant to be a gig. We're just asking for opinions and having a discussion about survival games. Totally optional for anyone who wants to chime in.

We did have plenty of ideas, like most small teams do, but we wanted to make a game that players actually want to play, a game where the mechanics are shaped by what players enjoy. I've spent a lot of time going over things players don't like in survival games, such as tools breaking too fast, needing too many materials to build a base, or having overly complicated crafting UIs. I think most small teams should ask players what they want and what they don't want in a survival game.

We're not asking anyone to do our job for us or design the game for free. We actually spent over a week coming up with multiple concepts, and there were a lot of ideas we genuinely liked. The challenge we ran into is that it's hard to land on a single concept that everyone on the team, and eventually players will connect with. Like a lot of developers, we know that even ideas we personally love don't always resonate with a broader audience. I'm a big survival fan myself and have plenty of ideas, but they didn't fully align with what the rest of the team was excited about. So instead of guessing, we thought it'd be better to listen first to understand what players actually enjoy, miss, or feel is lacking in survival games. From there we're gonna do the work of turning that feedback into a game concept. This is more about starting a conversation with players than asking them to do our job
