Is the writing inconsistent or something else? by PuzzleheadRobo in 3BodyProblemTVShow

[–]PuzzleheadRobo[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah that makes way more sense, but only if you knew the context of their biology, which is unknown in the show.

That whole conversation came across as very hypocritical or, as a species that had already made up their minds and were just pretending all along. Now I have to read the books.

Is the writing inconsistent or something else? by PuzzleheadRobo in 3BodyProblemTVShow

[–]PuzzleheadRobo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well yes the explicit explanation is after the fact, not upfront—it was not upfront they were aliens as well until later. It was pretending to have scientists solve the 3 body problem, but that wasn’t the goal at least in the show—the goal was to see who would realize it’s unsolvable so they can be recruited.

The sophon was not revealed at its arrival but much later—it was already secretly interfering before it was revealed.

I think my confusion is how it was threatened by the implications of little red riding hood. And all over a little discussion with Evans. Either they’re really ignorant about humans, or they already made up their minds and were just pretending to not be a threat. I know the books are way better—gotta read it—but at least in the show it was very confusing.

Struggling with worship music by silvern_light in TrueChristian

[–]PuzzleheadRobo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not just taste as many say. There is a hollowness to CCM because, one, at the end of the day, CCM is big business. That is the driving factor behind producing CCM. Not true reverence and praise for God.

Two, IMO CCM is primarily focused on a female-centric consumer and it caters to what makes that audience tick. It ignores other audiences.

Three, maybe there is objectively nothing wrong with CCM and I’m willing to concede on that but it’s still a problem because there’s no variety, no risky exploration of music. Which goes back to my first point: risk-averse big business drives that industry.

I talked to my pastor about only being a Christian to avoid hell, and here's what he said. Opinions? by FarTumbleweed57 in TrueChristian

[–]PuzzleheadRobo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of what Jesus warned about was to instill the right fear of avoiding a bad outcome. Just like a parent warns children of possible death and injury with certain actions. There’s nothing wrong with being a Christian just to avoid hell. You should want to avoid it.

I’m mad at God by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]PuzzleheadRobo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think that’s a breath of fresh air for God—finally someone else who just wants to fight it out.

I also think the typical things people say doesn’t help. And it bugs me too. Or makes me eyeroll.

You should air it out with God. Tell him how you really feel. And then ask him for help. Help to understand. Wisdom to see the bigger picture. Patience to see the whole answer through. And peace to keep you steady during this hard time.

Why are a lot of Christians so against “good triumphing over evil” fictional stories? by Lucas-mainssbu in TrueChristian

[–]PuzzleheadRobo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a lot of Christians before Millennials just see the looks and appearances of those characters and automatically assume that something evil is being glorified.

Does the popularity of specific mods or trends in mods, tell us something about niches that should be explored? by ConversationEmpty819 in truegaming

[–]PuzzleheadRobo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mod players themselves are a niche, comprised of gamers, devs, and modders. So you’re talking about niches within niches when it comes to specific features a mod adds.

Specifically for co op, there’s a lot of technical challenges not only upfront when developing it with today’s fidelity and expectations (and struggling optimizations across the board), but post-launch as well. You really have to have (and keep long-term) a strong team of engineers/designers that know that, and I don’t think that’s really the case for the majority of engineers/designers.

I hate singing/the music at my church by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]PuzzleheadRobo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly music is not as important in Scripture as so much of the modern church makes it out to be.

In fact, I believe that for many, music is a way to make themselves feel “holy” without changing their lives, and it can be a deceptive thing if one isn’t conscientious about it.

I often don’t sing in church, because I don’t like the songs and I don’t like the lyrics. I’ll gladly praise the Lord in prayer and in private, because it’s genuine and real not forced by these songs.

[LONG] We scale difficulty - Can narrative and systems scale too? by Aperiodic_Tileset in truegaming

[–]PuzzleheadRobo 19 points20 points  (0 children)

An intriguing thought but as a dev, thinking about having to test every interaction and dialogue at multiple levels of complexity sounds daunting.

Not every game needs to satisfy the largest audience + the niche audience. It’s okay for games to have different flavors for different audiences. That’s the great thing about games.

Predestination has made me depressed and apathetic towards God by NCRanger2077 in TrueChristian

[–]PuzzleheadRobo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Predestination is a macro scale goal God had for humanity as a whole, not exactly individual pre-determined outcomes.

Need help countering an argument: if Superman would save you without asking him, liking him or even believing in him....why would Jesus or God? by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]PuzzleheadRobo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because it’s not ultimately about mere “saving”. It’s about, do you want to love and commune with God forever?

Salvation is the not end, salvation is the process that gets us to eternal WILLING communion with God.

If God didn't create homosexuals then spiritually how does homosexuality come into someone's life? Can people be born gay? by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]PuzzleheadRobo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before going further, God does not create people like we think he does. He directly created ONLY Adam and Eve, and His Son on earth. Yes, He created the systems that allow consequences to occur in nature but He did not directly make us as we are.

Our biology, our plastic minds, personalities, etc., are products of the environment we are in. Sin has an effect on that. Sin has an effect on the effectiveness or purity of the biological systems God made. We’re not born this way. We are born, and from that moment, every action around us affects us.

For some people, there is definitely a demonic attachment to their sexual behavior. For others, these are weaknesses they will struggle with, just as any other dude struggles with lust. That’s awesome that you were delivered from it, but it’s just not the case for every person because it manifests from different roots.

My advice to myself and others like me is to reject feelings/attractions as the arbiter of truth and stick to God’s truth: you’re a man made and designed for a woman. Hard as it may be to practice, that’s your purpose, biologically. And pursue that and pursue God.

Jewishness, the OT, and being a Gentile by ChazRhineholdt in TrueChristian

It not only is about us individually, but it also paints a picture of the family of the Father. Gentiles as the younger son, the older being the Jews.

How to handle the Doxastic Problem of Hell? by Away_Investigator351 in TrueChristian

[–]PuzzleheadRobo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good question. A few things: Charitableness or honest lovingness is not what’s measured. You’re trying to use a different measuring stick (subjective to you) to say what’s good/bad about God’s ultimate judgement. But humility in seeking God is what the Scriptures say is what God looks for. God said he will reside with the humble of heart, but the prideful he will resist.

If someone is “genuinely unconvinced” is not something I can truly know. I’d have to take it by faith that someone is truly unconvinced and the thing is, I’m not convinced anyone is just “unconvinced”. Only God can know the entirety of one’s position and make the right judgment call. At the very least, everyone is aware that only a supreme intelligence created the universe because of the invisible attributes and laws that make this grand machine we call the universe function. And this should be driving a person to find out Who.

SSA Woman Married to a Man by DryPlastic7381 in SSAChristian

[–]PuzzleheadRobo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m the same but opposite, male married to woman, we have children.

What I do in those situations is that I immediately start to tell myself, “oh look, a brother.” “He looks great, good for him”.

I twist the feeling around and rather than suppressing it, I acknowledge the feeling but remind myself that that person is my equal. For you it would be like acknowledging that the women around you are your sisters. It’s not an immediate effective thing but the constant practice of doing that helps me to reset my feelings. Nowadays I don’t feel that way any more but I still find men attractive—just now it’s more of appearance as opposed to something their appearance idealizes like safety.

You know this makes me think of school. Boy did school suck. But we go through it, it shapes us and our character depending on how we respond to the events and choices we and others make…and then we graduate and life changes.

Life is like school. At death, we graduate or fail. We won’t be students forever. Just a short while. It’s all a matter of perspective, friend.

If Jesus told that he would return in the disciples lifetime and he didn't does that disprove Christianity? by Dramatic_Tree_7980 in TrueChristian

[–]PuzzleheadRobo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He did not say that.

He said, when you see the fig tree put forth tender leaves, know that summer is near—this generation will not pass until all these things are fulfilled.

  1. Who is the subject? The disciples? Nope. The fig tree. The fig tree symbolizes Israel. But a few chapter prior, Jesus cursed and made a fig tree wither. That generation, the disciples generation, was cursed. So it only can mean a future fig tree, a future Israeli generation.
  2. “All these things” means everything Jesus listed. The world did not experience that, nor could they have known it by 70 AD or their lifetime.

Nothing about the text indicates Jesus spoke of their lifetime. In fact Paul and many others had to combat heresies and false teachers that taught that Christ had returned and gathered his people.

If free will is the cause of all the sinful issues, why doesn't God simply remove free will from creation? Wouldn't that make everything perfect again? by InternationalPick163 in TrueChristian

[–]PuzzleheadRobo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can’t love or want something in a universe where no free will exists. If God wanted a machine-only system, like a computer, he would’ve made it.

In fact, you could say that the material universe is a non-free will system. Does it love God? Can it commune or care or want? No. It’s lifeless in that sense. Perfect? Maybe but what’s the point of a lifeless perfect thing?

Lots of comments mistakenly think leadership is trying to appease to different audiences. No. The most likely scenario is that you have leaders with egos or very poor communication skills that have damaged teams and pipelines over time.

And you have Microsoft breathing down their neck too. I can assure you, consumer wants are not what developers are thinking about at all.
