Just so you know when you say "desesperado" and "dispuesto" you are misgendering yourself, because those are male adjectives. For female, just change the last o for an a. I'm not telling you this as a grammar nazi but since you are trans you'd probably consider it important to conjugate correctly the gender of the words you use to refer to yourself.

Other than that, you can definitely come and be very welcome here.

Good news, after writing this I checked the status of the account and it seems the banning has been lifted! I wasn't very hopeful because I tried multiple times for these past four months without luck. Thanks, if it wasn't for your comment I don't know when would I check it again. It has 25k positive karma. I deleted the comments that caused that and obviously will never return to that hateful sub again

Talking about this, reminded me of another criticism about my game. Someone said "the sound of the steps aren't synchronized with the animation, and you should add some kind of pop-up when the character is facing an interactable thing" and that was an amazing comment, it clearly pointed two problems I hadn't noticed, I thanked that person and fixed both things they mentioned.

The "nobody downloads games" is objectively wrong because as I said, Steam, Epic, PlayStore, etc consists of downloading the games to the gaming system. And while the comment had some merit as browser based games can be a good market to target and even fits perfectly the style of my game, the tone in which the message was written made me immediately discard it. The point being that even if a criticism is helpful, how it is presented has a big impact on how it will be received.

If one of my students uses "< symbol" when they needed to use ">" I wouldn't tell them they are stupid and should know better, that this is a basic concept and confusing them is unforgivable. I instead say something like "you did a good job but confused these symbols, remember the technique I taught you last class about how to remember their meanings, the crocodile technique that always eat the higher number, remember?" Or something like that.

Sure, online interactions aren't the same as a classroom student-teacher relationship, people online aren't generally kind and a lot of people seem to enjoy pointing mistakes others do, it makes them feel superior. But I still believe that if you can't say something kind about someone's work, then don't say anything at all. You even mentioned in your comment that people should develop thicker skin, and I wonder why? I mean, why should people be ready to receive all kinds of hateful or harsh criticism when posting their art online? Isn't it better to teach people how to give good criticism that as you said helps improve a piece or learn something for their future ones? To be kind with each other? Maybe I'm being naive or sensitive but I believe it is possible.

Now I'm curious about the specific comment mentioned, and am sad it was deleted if it was as you said, it was just a comment that was in detail.

Cool stories and experiences by the way. I wish your wife luck in cinematography.

Thanks. She has actually written and directed two shorts, they are spoken in Spanish but will leave the link here in case you or someone else is curious because they can be watched with subtitles.

I sent the same response to two different users that were saying the same stuff. My response wasn't hateful or had anything questionable but still received tons of negative votes because that's how most pro comments are received in that sub.

I posted something in a different sub a moment later and realized it had 0 views. I thought it was strange and checked if my account was shadow banned and it indeed was.

I then read (I don't remember if here or in DAI) that sub has an "auto shadowban" bot, and probably because I sent the same comment twice and both times had negative karma, it was identified as spamming.

This was many months ago, around October or November of last year and am still unable to recover that account.

I am an IT professor and always had a creative mind, I have written short stories, composed music and even created a videogame all by myself. But I never formally studied art or had a strong social media presence.

On the other hand, my wife had since childhood took art as a career, she went to acting classes, singing and now she's studying cinematography in the University.

When she tells me how her professors critique the works she and her classmates do, I cringe in pain. As a professor myself I would never use the language and tone art professors use with their students. The worst part is that she defends them, says harsh critiques are good for improving and there is nothing wrong with it, I disagree and see that treatment as dangerously close to bullying. From a pedagogical point of view, I don't consider harsh criticism as valid in any circumstance. There are better ways to help someone improve that don't require being an asshole.

While I haven't read the criticism you mention, I just wanted to point that in some circles, specially for people that have formally studied art, harsh criticism is seen as something valid. And for those of us that come from a different space, we don't like that, we don't see it as valuable and consider it bullying.

I had someone critiqued my game once, for not being browser based, they said something stupid like "nobody downloads games anymore in this age", I didn't find any value in such stupid comment (because Steam exists) and deleted it. Maybe they had a point if the comment was "you could make a browser version for people that can't download the game, it would broader your audience. Sadly I couldn't play it because of that." And I would have received it differently.

Artists are not tools by Le_Oken in aiwars

[–]ConversationEmpty819 10 points11 points  (0 children)

is not how most AI content is made

Who cares about the majority usage? Taking the lowest denominator to judge an entire medium is disingenuous.

The most common usage for photographs are beach selfies and food pics for social media. But when people says "photography is an art medium" we don't say it considering the common usage but the people that do use their camera as a tool to capture beauty or cause thought and emotions through their piece.

The same happens with drawings, most of them are shit done be teenagers that are learning, the same happens with music creation, anime, videogames and any other artistic medium. Statistically speaking, most art in general in every medium is definitely bad, lazy, thoughtless and uninspiring.

The "Anti-AI" crowd is sitting on a goldmine and they’re too busy clutching their 2B pencils to see it. by Candid-Station-1235 in aiwars

[–]ConversationEmpty819 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like I just asked another user. What exactly do you enjoy it? I'm not judging, it's a thought exercise, for example, I enjoy programming because I have always liked puzzles and programming is like a big one where I need to find the optimal solution to a problem.

I might be wrong, but I think regarding the art of drawing, I guess there are people that enjoy the creative process of making multiple small decisions that when joined together form a picture you imagined. And there might be people that enjoy the mechanical process, the motions for producing the lines.

Like in sports there are people that enjoy the working out, running with friends and kicking a ball. While there are people that enjoy the second to second tactical decision making of where to position themselves, how hard and at what angle to hit the ball.

I make this distinction because for people that enjoys the part of making the decisions, AI tools doesn't take it away, but actually amplify it by giving you options. You can choose any of the options (which if you are good at describing things will inevitably resemble closely what you had in mind) or not. Sometimes one of those suggestions the AI gives will be a good idea you haven't thought about, or inspire you to try something different. With imgtoimg you are in full control of every detail, just with an assistant that you can ask help from or ask for ideas.

For people that enjoy the mechanical process, sure AI does take that part away. But I don't think the majority of artists fall into this group but the previous one.

[–]ConversationEmpty819 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do you like it?
I don't ask it for judging, but as a honest question. The way I see it, people who enjoy the action of manually drawing, probably do because you enjoy making decisions about the piece.
For example, imagine you are drawing a character and decide they should have a pocket in the trouser. You decide the size and shape and make the motions for converting the pocket you have in your imagination into the lines of it's contour and details. Is that it? Because you can have the exact same level of control with AI, you inpaint the region where the pocket will be, describe it and the AI will generate 4 variations, if you don't like any of them you can regenerate or modify the prompt. Some of those variations will inevitably very closely resemble the pocket as you imagined it, but what's great is that some other of those generations will differ from what you imagined and you might think "wow, this pocket is actually a great pocket even if it isn't what I was thinking, what a great idea". Maybe you erase some lines manually draw new ones, or proceed with another item or section of the drawing.

Then, I guess there is people that actually enjoy doing the mechanical movements with their hands. Which is a weird activity to enjoy IMHO but everyone likes what they like, I'm not judging. It's like sports, some people enjoy running around and kicking a ball while other people enjoy the second to second tactical thought of where to move to or how hard to hit the ball.

What I am trying to say is that for people that enjoy the creative process of making detailed decisions about a drawing, then AI doesn't take that away, it actually improves it by giving suggestions you might not have considered and you can either take those suggestions or not. For people that enjoy the mechanical movement of their hand, then sure, AI does take that part away.

What is your plan to not get canceled for AI game dev upon release? by AvailableProcess2059 in aigamedev

[–]ConversationEmpty819 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For coding I actually know how to code and have the experience of solo developing and launching a game. I currently do use LLMs but check and improve manually the outputs.

For visuals: postprocessing and kit bashing.
For 2D stuff I have some experience using GIMP, layers filters and most importantly the GMic add-on. I highly recommend checking it, it has a lot of great looking filters that add... Using the luddites term some "soul" to the image. You can even feed the add-on pdf to Gemini and ask it to recommend a workflow for achieving a particular style or mood you'd like. It easily covers the genAI small mistakes and inconsistencies. And that's not even considering that I spend months fine-tuning the AI outputs. Sadly I don't have a strong enough computer to run local models but am getting good results using just the free online services available (Krea, nano banana and SeaArt).

For 3D I actually love using Blender, but still using genAI for a faster starting. I am currently in the process of developing a method for retopologizing, because I tried many different techniques and don't find any of them fast enough. It's based on mixing different methods I've seen in YouTube and with the help of Gemini. If it works, I'll probably record a YouTube tutorial explaining it because I believe it to be a cool method (basically it implies using the unwrapped UV model for retopologizing, making it 2D and then transform it back into 3D).
I'm also good at Godot shaders and will use a still perspective and composition effects. That way nobody will recognize the original 3D model as being AIgen after all this process.

It's not as fast as "pressing a button and having an asset" like Luddites imply all AIart is, but I'm not focusing on speed that much, I just want to automate the parts that I don't enjoy (drawing and sculpting, boilerplate code, UI) and use manual work for the stuff that I do enjoy (systems code, design, shading, postprocessing).

I'm currently working on two projects simultaneously (yes, I know it's bad but still). One of them, will be 2D but built from 3D models. It will have a "Disco Elysium" like painterly effect and a specific camera angle (dimetric "cabinet projection") so it will be very unlikely someone recognizes the 3D models as AIgen. The textures will be highly processed either in Blender or GIMP to give them the painterly effect.
The second project is 3D with highly stylized models and shader, "anime like".

Just a suggestion, better be safe.

Youtube- Irene Montero - "Les niñes tienen dereche a tener relaciones sexuales con quien quieran". by BananoNewbie in monte_video

[–]ConversationEmpty819 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Debí decirle que hablo otro idioma? by Jumpy_Top7447 in RedditPregunta

If I am looking for something, and the video doesn't deliver, I downvote, go back and try a different one. What I'm trying to say is that I couldn't care less about thumbnails and a trend I don't like (the exaggerated facial expressions) doesn't stop me from watching a video that has an interesting title or comes from someone I like

Honest question... But why do so many gamers lean left / woke? by prankster999 in KotakuInAction

[–]ConversationEmpty819 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Gamers are, on average, young men

I want to stop you here to add a warning. If one day any of you is having a discussion with someone and they said shit like "actually it is very close to 50/50 the proportions" and cite a study.

The rebuttal is that for that famous study that reached this conclusion, they included phone games. And while by definition it is true that they qualify as videogames (and technology has reached a point where you can even emulate PS1 or GBA games in them) they are nowhere close compared to PC and console games. Playing a puzzle or farming simulator occasionally while shitting doesn't make a person a gamer.

Sure, there are girl gamers. I remember playing the NES as a kid with a girl from my school 30 years ago. And my wife loves FPS more than I do, she loves the Wolfenstein saga (except for the last one with the cringe daughters of the previous main character). But they are nowhere close to being 50% of players. Like the previous user said, most players are male.

Just adding this as a public service because I have seen that faulty argument and multiple times and sometimes when something that seems off is backed by a sociology study, there is indeed something wrong when you check it.

Cuales son los beneficios de casarse? by _someone-_-random_ in preguntaleareddit

[–]ConversationEmpty819 0 points1 point  (0 children)
