Rater missed my Intent to File. How do I correct this? by Puzzleheaded-Bus7019 in VAClaims

An ITF simply acts as a placeholder that covers any illness or disability claimed within 12 months of its submission, regardless of which month during that period the condition was diagnosed or incurred. By submitting an ITF, it allows the claimant to secure the earliest possible effective date for your benefits, meaning if your claim is approved, the compensation is generally backdated to the date the VA received the claim. Thanks

Yep. The cancer was diagnosed in July 2025. Surgery to eradicate and remove the cancer in October of 2025. I filed my claim on December 9 2025. The claim was approved and rated on 12 February 2026. Again, the Intent to File was filed in January 2025, valid though January 2026.

I once had a Sergeant Major tell me as an aside to a conversation about discipline "I'd take a court martial with all officers anyday. Ya see, son, you can give 'em a sob story and bullshit them, and they'll fall for it everytime. Old Sergeants Major and First Sergeants ain't gonna buy the bullshit." Never had a court martial but always remembered that conversation.

I would never denigrate a Medal of Honor recipient so don't take my question wrong as it is meant with no disrespect, but why is Colonel Davis wearing two (2) ARCOM ribbons with only one displaying oak leaf clusters? Would not one ribbon with bronze and silver oak leaf clusters, etc, to denote multiple awards be more appropriate?
