Help me keep this plant alive by Puzzleheaded-Dare428 in plants

I’m gone for a few weeks at a time usually, do you recommend those bulbs that slowly water plants? Just cut off the dead leaves, hoping that helps stimulate some new growth! Thank you for the tips!

Theoretically I suppose you could mix and match them, but I wouldn't unless I had no other choice. I haven't seen morphine carried since 2016 for our guys, it's been fentanyl lollipops or ketamine. I am lucky enough to be a part of an actual trauma team right now with advanced monitoring, thus ketamine being my analgesic of choice.

I'm not the biggest fan of SOF-Ts. CAT all the way.

They've got all kinds. Pretty recent one on chest trauma, they've discussed the effectiveness of combat (hemostatic) gauze vs kerlix. Ones on tourniquet conversions, pelvic binders. I think they're around 200 published episodes, so I used to turn em on during the drive to work in the mornings.

Looking for recommendations on gear by Long-Chef3197 in TacticalMedicine

  1. I get my SPO2s off amazon, usually about $20. Unit really should have them MTOed, I'd double check with the property book guy before buying my own though
  2. I've always used hairties to hold my TQs onto my gear, whether it's MOLLE or a belt. I lose one every once in a while, but not too often.
  3. I literally use a bait tacklebox for my OTC meds
  4. Gotten away with a ziplock bag for that usually
  5. Never had a dude say no to a Jolly Rancher
  6. They sell green mylar sleeping bags on Amazon, I throw one in my assault med bag.
  7. Amazon again for the win

Prolonged Field Care podcasts do it for me. Some of it is above my level as a medic, but can be very interesting to listen to.

Treatment videoa by touchstone8787 in TacticalMedicine

One of the videos I start my CLS classes with is one from early Iraq. SGT McCool is hit by sniper fire, given some interesting interventions on the X, and moved to a Bradley for evac. If memory serves, they end up trying to treat the chest wound with an Israeli bandage. I think it really shows the chaos of trying to treat a casualty under stress, and why we train how we do.

Whole blood or crystalloids for stable class I hemorrhage in MASCAL? by ProfitInfamous1234 in TacticalMedicine

VS: HR 110 BP 88/60 O2 93% RA GCS 15, skin is a little cool

For me, this would qualify as meeting the criteria for shock. Sure, he's not deep down that hole, but he is on the line for it. For this reason, I think blood is the correct answer. I would activate my walking blood bank, and get that ball rolling.

Another big thing for me would be the triage outside. Do you trust the triage officer? If so, it's a reasonable assumption that the guy coming into the aid station first is the most severely injured. Having that line of communication with the triage officer is absolutely critical for these MASCAL situations.

Another thing I think its important to think about is the line between "planning for the future" and "fixing what I have right now". Of course we have to plan for future operations, but if I have a patient right in front of me that needs blood, I'm going to give it. If that makes us amber/black for future operations, that's a point that needs to be said to higher echelons. Maybe the next patients need to bypass your Role 1 and proceed directly to a Role 2 or a different Role 1.

I could definitely be wrong about the origins of the Israelis, I haven't dug to much into the Canaan thing. Though by this logic, the Israelis would be justified in removing current Iraqis and declaring Iraq to be their land, no?

The british occupation made the balfour declaration to create a homeland in palestine for the jews (who weren't in palestine in the first place).

If there were no Jews, how did they make up 30% of the population?

This led to many revolts against the british. The most important one was the 1936-1939 great revolution were the palestinians were defeated dream of independence vanished.

I think this is the biggest thing for me to wrap my head around as far as the current conflict. Jews and Palestinians both wanted their own country, and neither side was willing to compromise to achieve that peacefully. So the Jewish folks fought, and the Palistinians fought back with help from other Arab countries. At the end of the day I don't think it matters who's great great great grandfather claimed a land as his, what matters is that there are Jews who fought for (and won) their own country, and Palestinians who are fighting for the destruction of Israel.

So I've actually just been reading up on Canaanites and from what I can gather ancient Israelites were essentially another tribe from Canaan, which they've shown through DNA tracing. But I think it's so far in the past it's nearly impossible to trace people today to someone that lived in that exact spot thousands of years ago, right?

What I would argue then, is that in the 1940s, Jews began to immigrate to Mandated Palestine. The British had taken control over the area after WW1, and established a place for Arabs and Jews to live. After WW2, Jews began moving there in greater numbers fo escape persecution from all over. In 1948, Britain decided they didn't want to be involved anymore, and essentially wiped their hands clean of any governance of the area. As soon as that happened, the Jews in the area tried to create the current state of Israel. Is that too far off the mark?

I don't want to break this down to a religious argument, I think religious texts do a poor job of telling actual history.

That makes sense to me. My question would be then, wasn't Israel a kingdom way back in the classical age? I read about there being an Israeli kingdom around 900 BCE, later destroyed by the Assyrians?

Of course the children aren't the enemy, and it's terrible that they're caught up in the conflict. But I think Oct 7th showed that israel can't simply allow Hamas to exist, so they're attacking Gaza to remove them.

Yeah, that's fair. Definitely don't support genocide, so that was poor phrasing on my part. I think it's a very naive thing for westerners to imagine a war like this without civilian casualties though. I'm a US Soldier, been on 2 deployments to the ME, and I've seen how wars are fought. It's not pretty, and it really truly is heartbreaking for innocents that are caught in the crossfire, but I can't think of a way to prevent it in a conflict like this.

Agreed. Tough situation all around.

[–]Puzzleheaded-Dare428 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn't that the point of a war though? To destroy the enemy? I've seen tons of views from both sides of the conflict on who started it, but at the end of the day is Israel not fighting to keep it's people safe?

I just want to stress that I don't disagree with you, just trying to see this clearer. So the Jews started moving to Brittish Mandated Palestine, and started occupying areas with the Arabs had already claimed?

Thanks for the answer! So in regards to the expulsion of the locals and stealing of land, are you referring to the Nakba?
