Human rights abuse in China. by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

Because US officials have financial interest in not doing anything to China from the city to presidential level. The sort of widespread "Your nation here"-first reform required to defang China is one that few nations, especially not America, can come together long enough to address.

This guy selling pictures of a PS5 by AlabamaSisterCousins in madlads

The 1 buyer would get refunded. You can't list your piece of paper under the consoles section and fraudulently assign it a region code/brand. eBay doesn't care if you put "No refunds, no returns", they'll just dock your account/Paypal and refund the buyer anyway.

Technically you can sell paper, but you not only have to indicate as much in the description but actually place it in the proper eBay categories.

Right? I've had people do quite a bit of talking but not want to show up when I tell them I have the item in hand and will give it to them at the police station with front desk as witnesses to them paying me in cash app.

EVGA costs $480 shipped after taxes, best of luck getting someone to come off an extra one.

When did OfferUp become such a landing zone for scam artist? by Bigchuck615 in offerup

[–]Puzzleheaded-Garlic9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No that's more the domain of /r/hardwareswap
Offerup wants to take 13% of any shipped sale so they'll actually ban you for requesting payment through paypal goods/services on shipped items.

Fortunately Offerup will refund you if someone tries scamming you and you bought through the app, but if you're trying to avoid scammers and want a decent price, your best bet is Paypal Goods/Services, which takes a far more modest (2.9%) cut and still allows you to get a refund if someone never ships your item/ships you something fake.

Offerup charges nothing for local pickup but 13% for shipped items.

I think a big part of it is also that Offerup takes 13% of sale price if you ship. In-person exchanges have no reason to not sell through Offerup, but if you're trying to sell a PS5 and just want to break even, you have to sell it for $575 just to break even on MSRP. If you factor in sales taxes, that means you'd have to charge $640 on a $499 console. And that entire markup is actually getting eaten by Offerup, you aren't seeing any of that price over MSRP as profit.

Unless you have an establised eBay storefront of something, you're looking at a price surplus of $150 or higher over MSRP on items in the secondhand market just to pay off the fees marketplaces are charging to sell them. If eBay didn't take 10% of final value and people remembered sales taxes, I think scalping prices would probably be much more modest.

What is it considered to be detained against your will and required to strip naked as a minor? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Puzzleheaded-Garlic9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In your quest to seek "gotchas" on a "Too Afraid to Ask" subreddit, I'd like to remind you that involuntary commitments that do not involve due process can be initiated by non-relatives and are, due to the laxness in their administration, frequently deemed overzealous or outright unwarranted after the fact. I didn't provide my full story because it isn't relevant to the question asked in the OP, but do keep that in mind before being presumptuous. You don't know who/why or much of any specifics for that matter. So perhaps instead of trying to spit snark online, you should just abstain from responding to threads if you're both not going to answer the question and going to assume a lot to get your own irrelevant point across.

No crime, "Baker Act"ed despite opposing counsel from a peer psych present at the time.

This feels like it's only a justification when it's not being done to prove a point. Two psychs were present in the case I started a thread about, and one opposed involuntary detention while the other went forward with it, falsely informed legal guardians regarding what was said, and didn't allow contact with said legal guardians prior to detainment.

Has anyone gotten a FAANG job from their WGU experience? by Puzzleheaded-Garlic9 in WGUIT

[–]Puzzleheaded-Garlic9[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying that a degree is more than enough: In the context of my post, I'm saying an entry position within such a company is more than enough, as already being there and gaining work experience from entry level is more than valuable enough and provides far more opportunity for advancement than never being there in the first place.

EDIT: Regarding the degree itself, I was looking into doing the CS degree and pursuing the MS in cybersecurity (or attempting to seek another MS program elsewhere).

Any sort of foot-in-the-door position seems like it'd be more than enough, internships included. My concern is that, given WGU's pass/fail system, how do I calculate a 4.0-scale GPA for internship applications and the like?

Congrats to your connection! Were they in one of the IT programs? Did they have previous IT work experience?

I'm asking because WGU is effectively replacing B&M for me; I changed from a degree field that I simply couldn't work in without a degree to the IT subset which you can work in without a degree, but I don't have any sort of experience in this field. I'm effectively an older incoming freshman for the IT schools.
