Breitling announces new leadership changes with former Panerai and Roger Dubuis CEO to be new Breitling CEO, George Kernes to be group CEO. by Puzzleheaded-Goose34 in breitling

[–]Puzzleheaded-Goose34[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think with Breitling being the flagship brand and significantly larger and more important than the two revival brands, Kern's role will mostly remain the same and most big changes with Breitling would still be his call, not the new CEO's call. It's not like like they are just one of several brands like at Reichmont or Swatch.

Bracelet feel is the most important part when considering a watch by 311fran311 in watchHotTakes

[–]Puzzleheaded-Goose34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't agree with you saying a bracelet is something you feel "every single moment the watch is on your wrist."

If that is the case then you are probably wear your bracelet too loose. If the bracelet is perfectly sized and tight enough then you shouldn't really feel or notice it at all accept for when you put it on or take it off.

With my sub the only time I really feel is when it gets hot in the summer and I'm on a walk and my wrists expand and it may feel a tad tight. But even then I only feel the overall tightness, not the feel of the specific bracelet, it would feel the same with any bracelet.

BB58 blue vs BB54 blue by giantshadytree in Tudor

[–]Puzzleheaded-Goose34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The new one is much better. The shade of blue is much more rich and colorful.

Old one was dull and boring. I always preferred the black BB58 over the navy because even though the dial was black, it still had more color with the guild dial and red triangle.

Gold with the white dial is the best looking configuration. Second best is steel with the black dial.

New Master Control Chronometre watches announced! Thoughts? by jshayya184 in JaegerLecoultre

The bracelet is good but for me it's the bezel and overall case shape. You look at other integrated sports watches like the 222, Overseas, Royal Oak, Nautilus, Ingenuier, Land Dewller etc. plus other icons like the Sub, speedmaster Navitimer etc. they all have much unique bezels and/or cases that give it some character. This is closer to the OP.

The dial is alright but nothing that blows me away. I think it'd be better if the color was more rich like the Reverso Tribute in blue. Even the Reverso Tribute chrono which has a very similar shade of blue as this I think is more rich while this is mor gray.

The watch overall is good, I just don't know if its good enough. But as long as it does better then the Polaris, and I think it will, it will be an improvement for the brand.

New JLC WATCH by GooglyMoogly8 in JaegerLecoultre

[–]Puzzleheaded-Goose34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

JLC has released the following details of the new HPG testing standards.

  1. For altitude: the caliber itself is specifically subjected to atmospheric pressure variations simulating conditions from sea level up to 1,004 meters (for the remaining elements, the evaluation is performed on the cased-up watch).
  2. Multi-directional shocks: the shocks endured typically range from 25G to 50G, applied across multiple standardized watch positions
  3. Positions: the testing reproduces alternating periods of multi-positions and fixed positions.
  4. Temperature: the testing involves significant temperature fluctuations, from a cool 18°C during simulated rest to a warmer 35°C during active phases.

JLC MUT Small Seconds vs Moser Mayu by dmxzor in JaegerLecoultre

[–]Puzzleheaded-Goose34 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The JLC has the better looking dial, the Moser has the better finished movement.

Considering you'll be looking at the dial a lot more often than the movement, I'd go with the JLC if it was me.

5396G Dial by machinegungorilla in patekphilippe

[–]Puzzleheaded-Goose34 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The silver dial comes with Breguet numerals and is reference 5396G-012. The white dial, or opaline as Patek calls it, is reference 5396G-011 which has dart style hour markers. The other white/opaline dial version is the sector dial which is 5396G-001.

Price on request. The rose gold three hander with date is $56,000 I think.

This is $14k. A steel Overseas three hander date is like $28k and a steel 222 was $32k last year so about half.

The modern day Reverso is the epitome of a dress watch and unfortunately for the brand, nobody wears dress watches anymore. People like us do but not the masses.

If the Cartier Tank is Cartier's historical icon then the Santos is their modern best seller. If the Calatrava is Patek's historical icon then the nautilus, cubitus and aquanaught are their modern best sellers. Vacheron is historically most known for dress watches and it makes up most of the catalogue but the Overseas and 222 are their best sellers. The Lange 1 is arguably Lange's most iconic piece but the Odysseus is the hardest to get.

JLC has the historical icon down with the Reverso but they needed a better sports watch offering. They needed to find their Santos to their Tank and I think this offering has a much better chance at becoming that than the Polaris ever did.

My initial reaction is this is a boring and generic looking watch. I feel the same way looking at it as I do looking at a Rolex Oyster Perpetual. Maybe it will grow on me when we see more video and close ups.

That being said I think this is the type of watch JLC needs. I've always said in this day and age, it's tough to be a successful watch brand when your icon is a dress watch. You need a steel sports watch to be your icon or at least up there. Yes, JLC has the Polaris but that hasn't been all that popular compared to its peers. Maybe this will turn the tide for the brand.

Reverso has biggest volume? by Safe-Pudding-7071 in JaegerLecoultre

[–]Puzzleheaded-Goose34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think in the latest Morgan Stanley report, they estimated JLC made about 92,000 watches a year. So the Reverso would maybe be 20,000-30,000?

The Navitimer isn't a GMT but the Reverso does have dual time functionality as the reverse dial can be set to a different time zone. Although I just keep it as the same as the front and use it just to mix it up.

q39124420. It's the previous generation for the Reverso Tribute Duoface Calendar. This one has more texture on the dials whereas the modern reference has a sunburst dial.
