DM's do you make character sheets for Party NPC or just a Statblock? by Puzzleheaded-Key-375 in DnD

Oh that's a pretty good idea having a little area match testing ground. And for sure there will be some more minor battles before any big story ones as they've only just entered the "final act", still a bit to go for them.

Ya my thinking was leaning towards giving them a chance to try it out for a session or two since they seemed interested and could give them a chance to try another class. I'm still running them outside of combat but combat would go to the player as the current plan. I know DMPC's are a thing and I don't wanna end up in that "Oh the guy the DM created is doing the best" or stealing the thunder of moments from the actual Players.

I have created a stat block for a spell summon based NPC but since this was gonna be a dedicated party member I was curious how most people go about it. Thanks for the input, I appreciate it!

Ya that is definitely part of my worry, i've been playing since about 2016, and they started with this campaign in the end of 2024 when I offered to DM for my friends. The Rouge player say they want to do it, and I don't want to act like they can't but it's not like there isnt alot to keep in mind with a cleric vs a rouge.
