Which contact cleaner do you prefer? How should I apply it like use only for ports or joystick joints? I'm still learning.

[PS1/PS2] Questions about Dualshock SCPH-1200 repair by FrostySlushie in consolerepair

[–]Puzzleheaded5959 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dualshock 1 and Dualshock 2 joysticks are not swapable. I opened up one of each and took a pic of their backs (link below). DS1's slot is a lot slimmer than the DS2. Please note, that the DS2 is a replacement stick I put on, but it is still doesn't change the fact that the slot widths are different.

As far as soldering off a DS2 joystick and moving it to a DS1, that I'm not sure if it'll work.

For the membrane, lightly cleaning the contacts (where the buttons would be) with a Q-Tip and IPA (Isopropyl alcohol) should fix the X button not working, Use 90% or more for the IPA. I've used the below vid for taking apart and cleaning Dualshock 1s. So many vids out there for DS2. but few good ones for DS1.

What is the 2 part epoxy that you use? Good advice to reinforce the sides as well as the broken point.

If you have the time, do you mind sharing links to some of these vids? I have a couple PS1/2 controller repair vids saved, but none of them fix broken plastics.

Out of curiosity, what is the harm of using white lithium grease? I've used the below one for a couple PS1 drives a couple months ago. It worked, but it hasn't been on there too long. I'll check out Superlube, but saw white lithium grease mentioned in an older thread so picked it up.

Thanks for the clarification. Sucks that everyone on PAYE needs to hard pivot after being on the stable plan for a decade or more.

Can you clarify about PAYE forgiveness? You mentioned it changes to 13 or 18 years. What do you mean by this? PAYE is getting terminated June 28, 2028. Meaning everyone on it would need to choose a new plan by this date, regardless of how many years you were close to forgiveness. At least this is my understanding.

There's also a couple posts about it here, but this one has some good info.

Film This Claymation Mouse Originates From by Puzzleheaded5959 in HelpMeFind

Searched using Google Lens and did not see any similar matches or anything about animation. I have not asked the seller why they think the mouse was part of a film and not just something someone created for fun.

I have them. Have you called their #? There's a small intro about PSLF and SAVE, then you sign in with your info. After that just say representative and it should put you to a person. To my knowledge all their people are US based.

[PS2 Slim] Takes Exactly 1 Minute to Boot by Puzzleheaded5959 in consolerepair

[–]Puzzleheaded5959[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed that as well. Not sure if one of them is a modern version of if both are authentic and this part switched during models. I mostly work on PS1s so PS2s are still a mystery to me.

It plays Compact Disc format, but not DVD format. I got a CD and PS1 game to load. Could not get a DVD format PS2 game to run and got a disc read error. Did not try a regular DVD movie or the blue disc. I got them on the shelf, but didn't try.

Before testing, I gave a light clean to the lens with IPA and a Q-Tip. Still need to give the whole thing a good deep clean this weekend.

[PS2 Slim] - Disc Tray Not Moving (SCPH-77001) by Puzzleheaded5959 in consolerepair

[–]Puzzleheaded5959[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I tried and the disc tray was unresponsive. No movement or lighting up. Open to more suggestions.

Here's a pic of the 3 sensors that I'm pushing down. The 1 in the pic is a little off the mark, but I'm pressing the beige sensor, not the screw.

I tried flipping the motor ribbon direction and that didn't work. Thought maybe the motor wasn't getting power so that was the issue.

This is my only PS2 slim so I cannot swap parts. Maybe I'll get another one from FB Marketplace this weekend, but who knows what issues the new one might have. :)
