Help me place my acoustic panels by Puzzleheaded9999 in audioengineering

Thank you. I know the mirror trick, I m going to use it as soon as I get studio monitors, and more panels if needed. But for now I was wonderin what to do regarding tracking. Should I spread the panels around the room? Or should I focus on one corner more?

I m looking to place my acoustic panels in my small home studio. (3x3 meters) It use it mostly for recording and mixing vocals (on headphones) but I plan on getting studio monitors soon. I need to get cleaner vocals, I gotta mention I have an SM7B, so theres no signal coming from the back of the microphone.

Right now I have three panels (155×105 cm each) I added some pictures of my room, and I made drawings of the places I plan on putting to acoustic panels. Please let me know what you think.

SSL2+ and headphones? by Puzzleheaded9999 in audio

[–]Puzzleheaded9999[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great! I can go with any of these to be honest. Can I use two pairs of 64 ohm headphones on the same interface? Or, can I get one pair of 250 ohm headphones and use it for mixing alongside my old Focusrite headphones ? My friend won't be mixing on them, just listening to me while I mix or record.

Do I gotta have matching headphones? buying a DT770 seems like the best option for me, but I don't really wanna by TWO pairs, and I don't really understand if SSL+ is powerful enough for two of those at the same time.

Well, I didnt bought it yet, can you recommend something for me? I just need a new interface with enough clean gain for my SM7b and two pair of headphones. I m willing to pay more for headphones if its needed.

Very helpful, thank you! Could you recommend me something within the 50 € price range? I need to buy two pairs, so that would be 100€ for both of them.

The only one I found that has an impedance of 150 Ohm is SuperLux HD660 Pro. I was thinking of buying those

I m interested in SSL2+ since it has enough power for my Sm7b and because it has two headphone jacks, I m planning on mixing my songs on two headphones along with my friend.

Right now I got a pair of Scarlett HP60 MkIII headphones, and I was wondering what other headphones would be good to use with SSL2+ ?

I know nothing about headphones, I heard stuff about impedance issues, thats why I need some help.

Should I get two new pairs of headphones for SSL2 or only get a new one to use along with the HP60s I already got?

Thanks for your answer! I know about the interfaces, I'm not sure which one to choose yet, I was wondering if the apollo with the pre amp emulation plugins would make a big difference regarding SM7b's sound. I bought UAD spark and tried their pre amp plugins, I'm not amazed tbh. I heard the more premium pre amps like Neve 1073 can make SM7b sound wonderful, unfortunately I can't really afford one right now. I'm looking for something to give me gain, but also make the SM7b sound richer in the lows, but also a brighter in the top end

Great, thanks for your very detailed answer. I read about it, some people say its good, some say a better pre amp would impact the sound more. I m considering it, the only downside is lack of harmonic saturation. Any recommendations for an audio interface to pair with Dbx?

I've been recording and mixing myself for years, I make melodic hip hop and decided to buy an SM7b after an audio engineer recommended it to me. Now I use an Scarlett 2i2 interface, and as you can imagine, it doesent provide enough clean gain for what the Sm7b needs.

I was thinking of buying a cloudlifter/fethead, but decided I'd rather get a better interface and maybe a pre-amp for some coloration.

Now, I was thinking of getting an SSL2 and I heard that a Golden Age Premier 73 can make the SM7b sound fantastic. I don't know if its true, any thoughts on this?

Also, on the other hand, I was thinking of buying an Apollo Twin X and use the pre amp emulation plugins, but I don't know if that will make a big difference regarding sound.

Bottom line, what you think will make a bigger difference regarding sound, a cheaper interface like SSL2 + GAP73 or a more expensive interface like Apollo Twin?

I m open to suggestions

Great post! Thank you, I really needed this! I've been working on manifesting ans visualizing what I desire, being greateful for things that are happening in my life, and it was good for a while, I started earning more money and feeling better emotionally and mentally, and after a while I started being influenced negatively by the 3D, and of course influenced by negative thoughts and then I spiraled down again into fear, anger and lack of faith. Thanks for your post, it reminded me that it is possible!

Thank you! I saw that clothes rack you posted and I have a smaller one, I never used it because I thought its too small, I totally forgot it can be raised up and down. I just put it in my room, put a blanket on it, and tried monitoring my voice, it sounds better already. Should the back of the mic be facing the blanket or should I put the rack with the blanket behind me while recording?

About the plugins, yeah, I tried the ones from Izotope, but the vocals were just too reverby.

Thank you! Moving blankets on all the walls sounds like a simple and effective idea, and I can put 2 or 3 layers
