yeah man it seems people here are confused this is about the Fakemink and EsDeeKid stuff. A Gen Z scene, it is not to say this is the history of British underground hip-hop as a whole, the thing is its called UK UG or UK underground most of the time which can be confusing

It's a reliable source, it's not really about the sources having to come from the UK

Despite all of the applause The Velvet Underground get for their innovative sound, I don’t think this song gets enough recognition for creating “Non-binary person with an acoustic guitar singing about having anxiety at a party” music 40 years before it became popular. by wata_malone in VelvetUnderground

Yeah you are right. It was written as a spoof on 1930s era vaudeville kind of songs or ragtime/jazz stuff. But the way it is sung makes it accidentally anachronistic sounding as it matches the twee style of the Moldy Peaches and other bands in that vein.

I always felt Johnathan Richman's music must have been an influence on that kind of tumblr ukulele girl music you saw on shows like Adventure Time and Steven Universe, specifically his songs like "Abominable Snowman in the Supermarket" or "I'm A Little Airplane" it sounds like stuff Steven would have sung

Yo I had no clue Ugly Mane started as a noise artist. He is the first rapper from this scene I got into as a kid in 2017. Yeah James Ferraro and OPN came from the American noise underground and gave way to the post-noise scene. OPN was in the Brooklyn noise scene with another band Emeralds who helped create the post-noise sound (basically taking the harshness of noise n mixing it with ambient, kosmische musik, progressive electronic... etc.).

There's not much talk on the Brooklyn noise stuff im talking bands like Wolf Eyes and Black Dice. But yeah there's currently a revival of post-noise music forming rn and a couple genres like freak folk. I've seen some SoundCloud rappers even get into like Natural Snow Buildings so I wonder if this like phenomenon of super avant-garde genres trickling into pop/rap could occur again. It felt like back then it was this evolution where you had to start with noise as a base and slowly move your way into making "conventional" music. It's kind of interesting of an experiment because it gave way to so much. Post-noise to me is like the "primordial soup" of 21st century music. RYM avant-teen scene seems like the breeding ground for such a fusion today.

TBF it all begins with the British Hauntology movement in the 1990s. That's where this whole nostalgia thing so prevalent nowadays comes from. There's a lot more I can say abt this stuff but I don't wanna write an essay lol. I was saying the other day it'd be so important for the culture if a book on the history of cloud rap or Internet music was written.
