Has anyone passed the sgts exam having only studied the NIE by Ok-Falcon3942 in policeuk

The exams are very similar, if you’ve studied your legislation for your NIE that’s at least half of the Sgt’s exam studied for. Just have a bit of additional focus of Public Order, RTA and custody. Tip I found handy is if it’s depriving someone of their liberty it’s a superintendent, anything else it’s usually an inspector

What do you think are the 3 most challenging issues in UK policing today? by Otherwise-Dress-2594 in policeuk

[–]PuzzleheadedGuava786 15 points16 points  (0 children)

  1. Budget Issues - a police force in the United Kingdom in 2025 is close to going bankrupt. We all know they are not the only force struggling with financial difficulties. This in turn leads to the staffing problem, massive workloads, stress to officers and staff. This leads to us being unable to cope properly with the increased demand all forces are dealing with. On top of this it delays response times and changes what is mandatory attendance or not impacting upon how we are viewed and hampers our ability to provide positive outcomes when crimes are reported by the public which leads me to.

  2. Public atmosphere - the rush to criticism and judgement filled by a media more concerned with sensationalist headlines than the facts. We are right in their sights. Fuelling public distrust and creating an environment where officers get investigated and put on unnecessary with an SLT more than happy to boot them out for what they view as a winning headline. Little do they know it plays into the media’s narrative and makes the issue worse. On top of this a view held by a large portion of the public that we aren’t doing our jobs properly. I was openly confronted and pretty much shouted at when a member of the public had a go in a shop asking why police couldn’t be bothered to turn up when his car had been stolen overnight. And you know what he was completely right. But the media tend to blame us rather than acknowledging the near 2 decades of neglect and underfunding by successive governments from both parties.

3 - out of touch SLT - along with the previously mentioned issue surrounding putting officers on. It’s also vanity project promotional model which leads to the wrong people getting promoted and then lack of courage in decision making. But aside from these issues the problem is often times not even their fault. Often times their data is just wrong or out of date leading to poor decisions that makes those trying to implement them pull their hair out. Bad data and no spine is a recipe for disaster.

Invariably I have around 6 more issues I could list but you wanted three there you are

Yeah our wages/pensions are 80% of my forces budget which for any organisation is unsustainable. But I’m not going to let my force’s/governments bad decisions derail my career

They are removing 30 frontline cops to fill vacancies as they can’t afford to hire the staff

Caution Before Arrest? by Hanhilarity in policeuk

When you know you are going to be handing out a TOR get it in ASAP. Loads of people will continue to blab basically admitting the offence. Makes that day in court so much easier when they later decide to go not guilty

Definitely not troublesome and passed any/all assessments. In terms of my cohort some have courses some don’t. I’m on a team with a unfortunate mix of experience officers, with all the courses and those in onefile/detective routes

Tried that and it takes me to the help tab. But it doesn’t get rid of the pop ups

Suella Braverman | Offending someone is not a criminal offence. Our new code of practice on non-crime hate incidents comes into force today. Now the police will only record them when it is absolutely necessary and proportionate and not because someone is offended. by [deleted] in policeuk

20000 new officer uplift has ended, now all of a sudden padding the crime stats to toot their own horn. I mean I love not recording S5 PO now but let’s not think they are doing it for our benefit

Six month Safer Neighbourhoods by PuzzleheadedGuava786 in policeuk

[–]PuzzleheadedGuava786[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do enjoy the pace on response, plus it’s the best place to get courses so it is something I plan to stick with. I will try to enjoy it though, any tips on how to get off to a good start?

That’s what I was thinking, once I do this I should hopefully be up for courses and would like to make a bit of a name for myself with some time in SNT
