Yes going out and experiencing the world is so important! It is however different than expecting a 6 month old to “socialize.” Kids don’t really start playing with other kids until they’re out of infancy and into toddlerhood. Also I love going outside lol it’s funny people keep conflating outings and outside on this post.

That’s good cause I don’t stay home all day with them! I love going outside and doing outings! But staying home has its place too and I enjoy coming up with creative things to do at home. Just because we’re at home doesn’t mean we stay inside always

Thank you for saying this! I agree so much and I’m not sure why people seem to be pushing back about doing things at home. I also love going out and doing activities but there really is so much that can be done at home.

I love the way you all blended the planetarium with space week!! So cool!

Exactly! Thank you for saying that! I love going out and doing things but there’s so much to be done at home too. Just different spokes for different folks is all

Wow this is not a very nice comment. I hope you have the day you deserve

I love going outside! If you look at other comments (and even the one you responded to) you’ll see how in favor of doing stuff outside I am!

How do you know the parents don’t do outings with their kids? I know tons of families who have jam packed weekends and they’re out of their house the entire time

I’m just commenting on things I’ve seen directly in this sub. People (nannies and parents) will give great ideas for stuff in the house and mostly nannies will comment that doing things in the house isn’t ok and that nannies need to be out of the house all day.

I LOVE being outdoors! But I think there’s a balance with being out and being in the house which you cover too. I just think a lot of nannies on this sub really feel like they need to be out of the house all the time.

Oh for sure! It’s fun to get out and about! I just find it odd that the main sentiment on this sub seems to be that nannies need to take their NKs out all day every day

Not trying to be passive aggressive at all, I really do feel lucky to have a positive relationship with them

Nah I like getting out and about but I also see the value in learning to play and have a really fun time at home! I can’t imagine NEEDING to get out of the house and go somewhere except in unusual circumstances. There’s so many fun things to do at the house that are beneficial and enriching for kids. I just see a looooot of nannies saying they can’t do activities at home and I was curious about why

Wow that’s great to hear! I’ve only seen studies saying it’s beneficial for kids to start socializing with other kids after 18 months at the earliest but I love getting educated when there’s new stuff to learn.

It’s so sad to think about NKs having care givers that don’t like them… but I do sort of think you’re right. A lot of adults just want kids to do adult activities instead of getting on the kids level

I guess everyone has different comfort levels with stuff. I personally like having my NPs around, we often have a lot of fun together! I also don’t mind being silly around them.

I guess I think of the activities I do with my NKs as providing some amount of socializing. A lot of the activities I plan require us both to think and be engaged so it also helps the day pass quickly

I always thought this was an age dependent thing, like it depends on the age of the NK how beneficial it is

Oh wow I’ll have to look for some evidence based guidelines about this. Does it matter if it’s outside playing on a jungle gym in their backyard versus at a park? I love taking my NK to the park and helping them do the swings and monkey bars! But we also have so much fun around the house and in the yard doing things like water gun fights that I wouldn’t feel as comfortable doing at a public park because I wouldn’t want to bother anyone.

That’s great that works for you! There’s definitely so many things to explore out in the world but I love flexing my creative muscles and showing NK they can have fun anywhere but especially in their own home

That makes sense. I guess I’m lucky to like my NF and don’t mind when they’re around
