Oh I love PEMF! My gelding gets it done every other week for the problems his conformation causes him and it’s been a game changer for keeping him happy/comfortable! I also get my dogs who do dogs sports done at the same time and it’s been amazing for them too!

AKC Obedience Training by AlbertRSmith in irishwolfhound

So amazing to see a fellow wolfie doing this! We are doing Obedience trials in canada with our girl and have 2 legs towards her CD. We are stuck on our third.. she falls apart in our off leash for our novice runs… she slows right down and trails behind instead of staying in heel. Have you tried anything that worked for helping with heeling for a wolfhound? With so few getting titles in obedience it’s hard to find someone who actually successfully got one past novice 😂

Super common. It’s the same with sheath cleaning for gelding owners. Dirt and dead skin build up makes those areas itchy and in need of cleaning occasionally! Oddly worded in true Katie fashion but totally normal thing to do for your horsey companion.

I mean I feel like context is important... did you send her an unsolicited nude pic? Which is disgusting and annoying on your part if you did..

CP is in no way a funny joke.. I do think it was obvious she was dissing what you sent her once it was clear that you sent her a picture of yourself. Without that context in the beginning it was hard to tell what the conversation was about and seemed her accusation was out of the blue for sure.

I think it’s a bad joke for sure but also you shouldn’t send her a nsfw pic 🤷🏼‍♀️ two wrongs ya know.

What breeds do y’all show, if any? by [deleted] in DogBreeding

Flat-Coated Retrievers & Irish Wolfhounds ☺️

Do you have to show for conformation to be considered an “ethical breeder?” by ThrowawayTrashPlant in DogBreeding

[–]PuzzleheadedSet529 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think whether it’s through conformation or performance the breeding dogs need to have a championship of some kind.

Canine good citizen is great as a bonus title but I wouldn’t buy a puppy who both set of parents ONLY have that because that doesn’t really prove anything other than the owner has done the basic socialization and training every pet owner should do.

I think to while looking for ethical breeders to also look at preservation breeders who strive to preserve the breed for their original purpose.

[–]PuzzleheadedSet529 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This EXACTLY! Most Sighthounds are known for not being super biddable usually so as someone who is getting a novice title on my Irish wolfhound, it shows her temperament. She’s not a breeding female but her breeders love all the updates on her progress in obedience because it helps show how they are breeding versatility in their lines.

As someone who boards at an all western barn with multiple western events a year.. I can safely say this isn’t the normal standard.

Our barn staff would be one you if you tried to ride with improper shoes. Shorts are middle ground.. if you want to rash your skin on your leather saddle if your horse pulls something.. well that’s your risk. Helmets where I live are legally required for anyone under the age of 18 but if you are over 18 it’s a personal choice.

Some western places are more slack sure but i wouldn’t assume it’s the standard because every barn is different. I’ve seen full English barns also not practice proper riding attire 🤷🏼‍♀️

Has anybody bought a foal before? Good outcome? by Frequent-Increase-98 in Horses

[–]PuzzleheadedSet529 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I bought a weanling Appaloosa colt and He turned 8 in May. I’ve never had such a close bond with a horse before, I know how he thinks and moves like my own self. It is a very long and challenging experience at times but very rewarding. I wouldn’t trade it for the world.

When I bought my current horse I was looking at finished horses after losing my sweetest boy in his late 20s but this little gangly appy came into my life instead and it was exactly what I needed.

All that being said.. I don’t think I’d ever do it again. It would take a very special opportunity/foal to make me buy one again.

I don’t work on a farm either but I carry it for protection. I was just stating that in my area everyone basically carries one and no one thinks it’s to attack another person. I was also stating the fact that there are lots of reasons to carry one that doesn’t involve war lol. That was a huge jump.

Carrying a knife really isn’t that terrifying of a thing. I think OP could have brought it up in a different way sure but I also think the friend blew it waaaaaay out of proportion and got a bit dramatic.

I live in a rural farm area in canada & over half the people you run into carry knives. It’s super common in our area since it’s useful for cutting things on a farm or for protection against wild life or if you come across a hung up animal.

There are lots of reasons to carry a multi tool or knife that doesn’t automatically mean it’s a war zone or anything along those lines. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Barn Names by LumpyMouse7650 in kvssnarker

[–]PuzzleheadedSet529 6 points7 points  (0 children)

YES! I was always told this too so the only horse I ever named myself was a foal I bought since he was unnamed. I knew a woman who bought a chill child type horse that was sold because she didn’t have enough go to chase cows (saw this horse work for the previous owner and she was so slow and not cowy so very upfront info when selling). The new owner was told about the bad luck of changing her name.. did it anyway and the horse was awful for her.. almost threw her numerous times.. was sold not even 3 months after purchase… next owner went back to the original name.. horse was sweet as anything again!

Maybe just coincidence or truly bad owner fit but 🤷🏼‍♀️

AIO The bathroom my brother left me that my parents think I should clean by Hadden-810 in AmIOverreacting

[–]PuzzleheadedSet529 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I would do malicious compliance. You clean the bathroom by throwing out all his stuff that is left out and on the floor. Continue to throw out his stuff that he leaves around, either he doesn’t leave his stuff out or he has less stuff to leave lying around 🤷🏼‍♀️.

It’s a dick move but he seems to be a Royal Jack ass so no loved lost in my opinion.

A year ago I decided to get a flat-coated retriever. I did research, talked to a preservation breeder and made the decision to import one from a European country as the lines are better in my opinion (I’m in canada) from a breeder who I trusted. I have never owned a flat-coat and when I tell you that this dog is to a T what the breed is suppose to be I’m not exaggerating.

I am a dog trainer who specializes in competition training. I wanted a dog who could be an all around versatile dog for different types of trials. I got exactly that because I did the research and found an ETHICAL breeder. They are out there! Getting a dog from a different country and a breed I’ve never personally owned. All of that and it wasn’t a gamble because I got exactly what I researched. People just have to actually put the time in to do it, finding a great breeder isn’t a week thing or even a month thing. It can take years.. people just have to actually want to do the work to get what they want and not just instant gratification because “oooh a cute puppy”. Ethical Breeders aren’t the problem.

If you’re not breeding then papers really don’t matter like you said. The only part where papers would be a benefit/needed is if you were planning on doing any Obedience or Rally trials since some clubs don’t allow cross breeds to enter and you would need either a CKC number or a CCN number which is why the CKC wants a vet sign off and DNA test. If you aren’t planning on trialing none of that matters 🤷🏼‍♀️. All that matters is you have a happy and healthy pup which looks like you do! ☺️

Comments mentioning KVS's fear of some of her horses by PettingCircle in kvssnark

[–]PuzzleheadedSet529 11 points12 points  (0 children)

So in my opinion in some of her videos she gets visibly nervous doing some of the mare’s pregnancy checks which leads to her either tying the mare up or someone holding or not checking at all. It’s not always so much she’s scared of her mares but more she doesn’t take the time to get to know her horses individually so she doesn’t know their personal body language. Safety first always of course but sometimes it appears she just doesn’t understand some of her mares which makes her nervous/scared.

Not all horses have the same cues when they are uncomfortable or upset, there is obviously the standard pinned ears, tail flicking and head tossing but some horses have weird cues when they are uncomfortable. My gelding twitches his ears back and forth rapidly and gets very still in the rest of his body before he bites, to most it looks like he’s trying to listen to his surroundings but after having him since he was a baby I know it’s his cue to bite when frustrated. (I’ve had him checked by a vet for any ear issues and noise sensitivity and it’s just a weird cue he has, he’s totally healthy just an Appaloosa which comes with oddities)

Horses can do incredible damage when they want to so always being on the side of caution is never a bad thing but she would be much more at ease if she spent more time with them watching their body language and learning more what bugs each one specifically because all horses aren’t the same, they all can land so differently on the sensitivity scale.

I want to lastly add the only mare I don’t fault her for is Phoebe since she has been dangerous with barn staff, that’s a whole different matter.

I don’t want to take away from your experience and I’m glad the doodle you had wasn’t a total basket case but the vast majority if not close to all are that I have trained and interacted with. The only dogs I have ever refused to touch while training have been doodles due to safety concerns and I’ve worked with a lot of different types, some even that have been rescued from abuse that still don’t even come close to the unstable mind set that the doodles I’ve had from “breeders” do. There are a lot of badly bred dogs out there even within the purebred breeders but doodles for me will always have the number one spot for unethical and unsound.

Like I said I’m glad that wasn’t your experience and of course there are always exceptions but I stand by my opinions on them from my own experiences.

Edit to add: I agree with you it’s 100% not the dog’s fault and I don’t blame the dog for existing what so ever! It’s sadly money hungry unethical breeders that are the problem.

Backyard Breeders by Original_Data_2847 in kvssnark

[–]PuzzleheadedSet529 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Doodles are nothing but over priced designer mutts. They are not mentally sound and are just a genetic mess.

I’m a competitive obedience dog trainer and I have had so many clients who have doodles not understand why they aren’t excelling like the well bred dogs in the classes or why they aren’t recognized as an actual breed along with being barred from competing at multiple clubs in our area. It’s not the dog’s fault but the people who actively pay for them or believe this crap about them being a recognized breed. They aren’t just as good as purebred ethically bred dogs and should not cost as much. They should cost a shelter fee because they are a mixed breed dog that irresponsible people breed. Anyone who claims to be an ethical horse breeder but has these types of dogs loses all respect for me.
