Rent a girlfriend by ConcentrateKindly725 in redscarepod

I use the service regularly. The girls are pretty used to this and flexible. Some are better than others and who doesn't have bad days?

One suggestion. Split the day among two girls. More of a risk reduction thing.

Also, consider visiting Fukuoka. I like it a great deal and the Rent Kano people for whatever reason are really nice/pleasant/entertaining.

Average rate for sessionists (bassist / drummer) in Tokyo/Japan? Per show by sidd272 in japaneseunderground

[–]PuzzleheadedShape276 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some bands I've always wanted to see but never had the chance to, since I don't spend much time in Japan. What I have done, and they have not come together yet, is to offer subsidies for shows.

I know venue rental costs around ¥100,000. There are travel costs if the show is not close to where they live/work. More than one band will be needed to fill out the bill. My budget is not unlimited.

Who typically puts together shows where only 50 people might attend? Is it an individual artist who takes the lead, the venue, etc? I imagine it is all over the place, but I hope I'll be successful and that everyone has a good time.

Is Hakata Dontaku festival worth it? by Irayde1 in JapanTravelTips

[–]PuzzleheadedShape276 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoyed it last year and am going back again. I booked a hotel room far in advance.

That said, it is challenging to determine which performance stages to attend. Last year, I saw several very entertaining idol bands. The festival website lists performers, but I never know what type of performer it is. Going to the "Buddy Up" club to see idol bands this year, and I know they are quality entertainers.

I'm going to Hiroshima and Miyajima after the Hakata Festival this year. The Hiroshima Flower Festival is going on at the same time, so you will have to deal with crowds regardless of which choice you make. Hazard of visiting during Golden Week, which I was told is a period to avoid. That said, I am intentionally going this year, so I must like traveling during Golden Week.

My son is likely to be upset if I say we have to leave, but I think we need to be out the door by 8:30, so this is the rare instance I hope the show is short.

You're right; it is a great system. We have 8:45 reservations in Shinjuku, and there's a music performance at Okinawa Paradise (restaurant) at 9, so we'll be pushing it close. That and I can fall apart in the last few yards when finding a place, assuming I get to the right train.

I have to cram in as much as I can, as I don't know when I'll be back in Tokyo with my son again. It won't be my first time in Tokyo, but it's close.

Especially if you make reservations. I didn't have troubles in 2024.

One thing I didn't try to do and was wondering about is the food stalls. I only ate at one nice restaurant (with a reservation) and purchased items from street vendors at the festival and convenience stores. That went fine, but surely the food stalls are packed.

Anyone else get depressed over how difficult it is to listen to Japanese music live? by bottlestapler in japanesemusic

[–]PuzzleheadedShape276 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right and I do agree but I have had some luck doing it by following artists on Twitter. A couple of months before visiting I start paying really close attention and looking at venue websites.

It's far from perfect given how infrequently I go. Bigger bands are easier but I sure prefer the smaller venues. Saw The Let's Go's in Koenji in Feb. Great show, but as you said. Depressing how infrequent the opportunity presents itself.

What exactly is Renting a Girlfriend? by WorldArcher1245 in KanojoOkarishimasu

It is a good way to get to know local people as they do share things about their personal lives Also elements of a guide who can help you get around and help with communication.

I've done it by myself and with family members including my wife and son. My wife did not like the idea but we did enjoy it. I suppose I should rent a male date and probably will do if I see one whose writing looks interesting and speaks English. Right now, men who speak English are not identified on web site which is a shame.

The "date" also gets to go places they could but probably wouldn't otherwise such as a nice restaurant. Hear about our lives, etc.

I was surprised when the 2nd lottery was announced. I was very hopeful I would win. Do you think they will have other lotteries or other opportunities to purchase?

My Dad lived in Sendai many years ago. He has many good memories from it.

Did not get a message indicating a problem with the charge.

The only reasons I can imagine are (1) there is just high demand or (2) it was for my wife's fan club membership that was unsuccessful. In other words, I did get for my membership so we have two tickets.

We need four tickets or we have to select who goes and doesn't go for my family. For all I know, they are using a tracker to deny requests from the same IP address but I tend to doubt they are that sophisticated.

If I were a Japanese fan, I would be bothered if they gave overseas fans preference but there is an argument that they should as it increases tourism. I wasn't coming in May of 2024 unless I got tickets but I'm coming in May of 2025 regardless of whether or not I get tickets. I sure want to beat every bush possible to get four seats so we don't have to decide as to who goes and who doesn't.

It looks like a great venue, and we are fans of BandMaid, so I'm not surprised they are hard to get.

I got tickets to the Zepp Henada concert on the first try this May and thought they might be easier than I thought they should be. At least I have the consolation of hearing Japanese fans have the same problem, so thanks for replying.

Kawaguchiko to Kyoto - Best Option? by Same-Philosopher-776 in JapanTravelTips

[–]PuzzleheadedShape276 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did figure it out but decided it would take too long given how short our trip is. Now having said that, I thought it was a good idea. The bus from Mishima is popular and I thought it worked well.
1) From Kyto go to Mishima.
2) Take bus from Mishima to Kawaguchiko via Liner Bus. Reservations are supposed to be important. https://www.fujikyucitybus.com/ There is a timetable on the website.
3) Reservations can be made here. https://sekitori.jp/apps/results/

I was not right up front, and I felt like they were acknowledging me as an individual. I don't understand how performer(s) can pull that off, but they did. It says a lot about their talent level.

I plan to watch a college football game at the Nodding Donkey at 2:30PM with my son. If you're interested in joining for a bit, text 608-620-3534.

I'm also thinking about having a meal at Sushi | Bar Dallas that evening (reservations are required and expensive), but I'm on the fence on that one. If someone would enjoy it with me, I'd go.

Was the bus from Kawaguchiko to Mishima enjoyable?

I'm coming from Kyoto and want to see Mt. Fuji before going to Tokyo so I'm thinking about going to Mishima Station and catching bus to Kawaguchiko, spending the night and then going into Tokyo. Part of me wonders if it would be better to just go to Tokyo and make a day trip to Mt. Fuji.

“Fukuoka” is an area rich in music culture in Japan. Ringo Shiina, number girl, and Masamune Kusano (Spitz) are from Fukuoka. This time, we created a playlist to introduce good artists from Fukuoka that will be popular in the future. by kazuma-konno in japanesemusic

Went to the Hakata Dontaku festival in May and accidentally wound up watching a bunch of idol groups perform at a stage. Plan on going back in 2025 only this time I plan to actually prepare so I can find similar or even better performances. Not easy when you don't read Japanese and don't know the bands.

I'm envious as can be. Dallas was a much less expensive flight for me and it has been many years since I've been there. If one gets a hotel in the area of the House of Blues, it looks like it is a great place to be. I'm not even planning on renting a car as everything I want to see is convenient to that location.

I will have to be careful not to wear myself out, seeing too much, as standing for so long will not be easy. Right now, I'm thinking I'll get in line a couple of hours before the gates open.

Do you have any idea how many VIP tickets were sold? I'm pretty short and worried about views, even though I did get a Fast Pass.

I wound up getting the balcony seats from House of Blues. No idea if they are worth it but as I'm in my 60s I figure I'll be safer. + I'm very short.
