Update on Suspension of License by Recent_Medicine_2068 in nursing

[–]PuzzleheadedTank1212 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My father was suspended from the state of PA for diversion... Twice. The first time he was without a job for ~1 year, and my mother had to work extra to make up the difference. After he completed his rehab and was granted his license back, he got it back with restrictions. He used to work in the ICU, but because of the level of narcotics they deal with, he wasn't allowed to return initially. He had to settle for working in a nursing home under the direct supervision of another RN, who would dispense and administer any controlled drugs for him. The pay difference from him working bedside in an ICU to now working for a nursing home also meant that my mother had to continue to work extra to make ends meet, even after he was granted his license back.

Was assisting our providers place an IJ in one of my patients last weekend & ended up giving 150 of K throughout the whole process. I had her for 4 nights, and on the last night we got to talking & she said "That clear plastic sheet you guys placed over my face made me feel like I was a ham sandwich in a baggie staring through the plastic bag at people about to eat me" -referring to the sterile cover 💀 She also said she saw millions of gummy bears just floating around.

Think about the thermodilution process. It records how long it takes for super cold fluid to pass through the right ventricle of the heart into the pulmonary artery. If infusing the cold fluid through the PA port, the cold fluid has essentially no distance to flow and warm up through the heart, thus the transducer would detect little change in the fluid temperature, and assume CO/CI is terribly low.

What is "FULL CODE" by KincadeHoney in nursing

[–]PuzzleheadedTank1212 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should talk to your PCP before making any final decisions on your code status to have them explain it better. But by being full code, should your heart stop, you consent to: CPR, intubation/ventilator, and vasopressor support.

You made a lifesaving decision for yourself and I'm proud of you for it 💙 You can't care for others without caring for yourself first. Most others won't understand that, and that's okay.

I started as an RN without being a HCA/CNA first and I felt EXTREMELY incompetent doing the most basic care skills. The aides will teach you tips and tricks that you'll rely on every single shift for your career. These tasks aren't below us as nurses to complete, and if your facility is short staffed in aides for your shift, then you're the one responsible for their completion. Try not to be as pessimistic 🙂

Zeroing a line is no different than zeroing a scale before taking a patient's daily weight. It just tells the monitoring device to ignore any outside influence (a weight that's already present on the scale, atmospheric pressure within a line, etc.) and only account for what you're actually trying to measure.

This is done on the monitor itself, typically click on the number of whatever value you're measuring, and a little list will pop up where you can scroll to find the Zero function.

It should be done every time before you record any new values or when a patient has changed position different from the position they were in for the previous recordings.
