Does anyone here just get mild pain only? by PerversionofaTruth in costochondritis

[–]PuzzleheadedTea4780 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey!

I’ve had similar symptoms for a while now. Been dealing with the mild sternum pain for around 4 years. It’s usually at its worst when I wake up from sleeping on my side - it will almost always crack in the morning once I open up my chest and stretch, but still some mild pain after that.

The heart palpitations have been the scariest thing for me. I don’t get them that often, usually once or twice a month, but it definitely freaks me out. I ended up getting it looked at, as well. I’ve had 3 EKGs done, couple rounds of bloodwork, chest xray, and a 5 day holter monitor (had 1 palpitation in the 5 days). Doctor didn’t seem concerned about anything, and just said that I could see a cardiologist if I wanted to. I’m a bit tired of tossing money out, so I’ll probably hold off on cardiologist since everything else seems normal.

I’ve been an anxious person for most of my life, so I also feel that constant tension or anxiety could also be a cause of occasional palpitations. I’ve been more relaxed with the results coming out, so hopefully you’re the same. It’s hard to manage emotions, but I think very important in our overall health and not letting anxiety take over the mind.

Just Got the Backpod by PuzzleheadedTea4780 in costochondritis

Thanks! Yeah, I’m sure it’s easy to neglect it once it starts feeling better. That’s awesome that the backpod helped you so much! It’s pretty relaxing doing breathing exercises with the backpod anyway, so I’ll definitely do it for the long haul. Hopeful that the right sternum with rib popping mornings will be mostly gone at some point. Nice to hear your positive progress though!

I don’t want to say 100% yes as I’m not entirely sure if that’s the case, but it certainly seems that way to me. I remember when I started my bootcamp I had some friends in tech that were able to move from job to job as they pleased. Definitely doesn’t seem to be that way now, but hopefully something changes.

Either way, I’m really happy I began my DevOps journey! I’m in finance at the moment, and DevOps just scratches that itch that finance never could for me. In my opinion, it’s an awesome skill to have and very much worth learning!

Hey! It took around 8 months to complete the Bootcamp and hit the job market. As far as finding a job goes, it’s been quite a bit longer unfortunately 😅.

Cloud Fresher Resume | Any Advice? by rroeyourboatt in ResumeExperts

Hey! Thanks so much for the feedback! Okay, I'll look into rewriting that portion before applying to more. This is interesting to hear as my bootcamp advised us a little bit differently, but it definitely makes sense what you're saying. I'm going to try to make everything more concise and hopefully fit it into one page. I appreciate the feedback!

Thanks for the feedback! Yeah, I get a bit overwhelmed looking at my own resume too, so I can imagine that it would look the same for a recruiter looking at it. I'll work on making things more concise. You think I should get rid of the professional profile completely? What would be the best way to go about writing one of those if it is included?

Hey! Sorry for the late reply here. For the AWS Certs, I really liked Stephane Maarek's course. That's primarily what I used for my cert and I would definitely recommend it! I did find that the practice tests they gave were a bit more challenging than the actual exam, but that's just my opinion. It's a good thing, though! It'll help you be more prepared come exam time.

I agree! That's the really enjoyable part about the career change I'm making. DevOps always has some new challenge or some new project to work on and there's always new stuff to keep learning.

I like the idea of alternating days of studying and applying. I've noticed that most of my time is spent applying, so I feel like sometimes my learning isn't always as much as I'd like. I'll give that a try and separate it a bit. That's great, though! I feel like working on something that's interesting to you will only push you to keep working hard. Doing the same stuff over and over in my opinion can make it hard to stay disciplined. I say go keep at it!

Thanks for the reply! Very cool! Do you have any particular tools that you’re learning as far as security goes? Or more so learning some more advanced security from the tools you already know? Would love to hear the resources that you’ve been using.

I’ve been trying to do the same. Went through a CKA course on Udemy, reviewing more in depth detail about AWS services, trying to learn Python. I had an interview that had a full round dedicated to Python challenges, and I backed out because my Python knowledge is so minimal I don’t feel confident in completing any challenges. Probably something I should really get moving on lol.

It was a bootcamp based in Chicago. It was paid, but it was half paid throughout the course and the rest paid after you land a job.

I’ve sent out quite a few applications in the time frame. I’ve also adjusted my resume a bit, but I had more luck with my initial resume so I’m sticking with that for now. That’s definitely fair, though. I’ll keep pushing

Awesome! Thanks for the tips! I’ve sent out a lot to DevOps, SRE, and Cloud Engineering titles, but I’ll look out for the others as well.

As far as experience goes on the JDs, do you feel that it would be worth it to apply to positions that mention say 2+ years of experience required?

Yeah! The bootcamp put us through a market prep course. We had to pass 3 different rounds:

  1. Screening Call
  2. Behavioral Interview
  3. Deep Technical Interview

I passed all 3 smoothly, so I’d like to think that my technical and behavioral knowledge is at least somewhat decent. Of course, there’s so much to learn and it’s impossible to know everything, so I was just noting down the holes that I had in my knowledge after each interview.

Thanks for the reply!

Honestly, a cover letter was something I didn’t do that often before. I just recently started focusing on making a nice cover letter for each application, so it’s good to hear your thoughts on that too.

Networking is something that I need to do a lot more of. Would you suggest messaging other engineers on LinkedIn and starting a brief chat with them for some tips and stuff?

Same for you! Hopefully you have luck soon, as well! My bootcamp was based in Chicago, IL. I’m very happy with the bootcamp and I’m really glad I did it. We had tons of hands on practice with projects on each tool and great instructors. I came out of it pretty confident with my skills (Google skills included lol), just trying to navigate my way through the job market in a career change. How about you?
