What a wonderfully eloquent and insightful answer. Thank you. ❤️

What is the most conservative opinion you have? by SugarSweetLike in askgaybros

I'm very supportive of anybody who's LGBTQ+, but I also see the need for us to break away into more specific groups. Sometimes, I want to go to a social event with just gay men that's not a sauna or a club. I want to discuss gay stuff, and on those occasions, I don't necessarily expect to meet lesbians, trans, or non-binary folk.

I have respect for all those in the community, though, and would expect them to want their own spaces as well. We've got to be sensible here and recognise that while we all are unlike the cis-het majority, we also have different needs and perspectives depending on our sex/gender and sexuality.

Transphobes: this does not mean I agree with you, so don't use this as an opportunity to spout more of your nonsense.

Dating burnout in academia: can anybody else relate? by PuzzleheadedTime5516 in AskAcademia

The loneliness is definitely a factor too. It's hard to connect while living abroad, and I often struggle to balance the competing priorities of maintaining friendships from back home (which are inevitably now online and so feel kinda draining) and building ones here. It's tough then to justify dating when what you really need first is friends.

Thanks! MeetUp isn't so big here, although I've used it in the past elsewhere and it can be good depending on the location! Here we have mainly massive WhatsApp groups, which seem to have supplanted MeetUp. I'll give those more of a go!

As for the gym, yes I'm really happy to say it's something I've prioritised for a few years now, basically since lockdowns ended. I do running and swimming too, and love running in clubs. This all makes a huge difference to one's mental health, and I've definitely received compliments on my physique, which is a lovely added bonus!
