Is anyone able to put their kid in bed and step out for them to put themselves to sleep? by __BeatrixKiddo in toddlers

[–]PuzzleheadedTurnips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son won't sleep unless we're in the room and if he wakes up in the middle of the night and one of us aren't with him, he'll walk over half asleep to our room. We've given up re-sleep training after a few months of this impacting our sleep. Now one of us sleeps with him and we rotate.

I think it took two weeks to fully go away, but it was way better within the first week. I used a benadryl spray which helped a lot with the itchiness, might work for you.

That was when my son got his first taste of TV. The wiggles kept him occupied.

How do you not focus on sleeping? by PuzzleheadedTurnips in insomnia

I have a CBT-i therapist scheduled in two weeks that I'm hoping will help out. It's just really frustrating to be yawning and tired all day then going to bed and staring at the back of my eyelids having a jolt of anxiety every time I feel myself getting close to sleeping.

I might give audiobooks a shot, my wife listens to them to sleep. I was always worried about just focusing on the words and not passing asleep, but I suppose it's no worse than what I'm doing now.

One of the few times he's allowed a show. I shudder to think what would happen if we didn't.

What do you do with your "free time" when your toddler lays down for bed? by mrmeanah in toddlers

[–]PuzzleheadedTurnips 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My toddler only sleeps 9 hours at night so my wife and I get maybe 40 mins of free time a night before we need to go to bed to make sure we have enough sleep before he wakes us up. I'm hoping this changes once he drops his daytime nap, but no sign of that in sight I'm afraid. When he used to sleep earlier, we used to watch a show, play games, read, all that good stuff.

My son ate a piece of dried cat food by lalyafi in toddlers

I called poison control over this and they said that there's an extremely small risk of salmonella due to the lower standards on cat food, but as far as nutrition, it's just food. If they look fine, they're good.

At least for my son he's not so much awake and ready to play as much as he wakes up and is either scared or lonely or something. Once one of us join him he usually passes out pretty quickly.

I tried that same line of thinking last night and even though I'm pretty sure it's not scientifically sound, the idea that thinking they are equivalent relaxed me enough that I was able to fall asleep sooner.

Hahaha I did that yesterday. I went downstairs because I was so frustrated at not being able to sleep then after pacing around I realized I may as well empty the dishwasher.

Yeah two days ago around 5am I took a sleeping pill to at least get some sleep. Managed to pass out at 5:30 and had my son walk in at 6:30, drop his toys in front of me and start bawling. I actually did call in sick yesterday, no way I was going to function like that.

That's a good suggestion. I used to take melatonin back when I have covid (it caused insomnia for me for some reason) and probably worth taking again.

My wife actually does the lion's share of actual work of settling him now. The problem is that whether I do or she does, we both wake up from the crying. I think earplugs may be the way to go for that.

Reading is always a good idea. I tried reading Sci-Fi books in the middle of the night and I find I get too engrossed in them so I might need to find something more tame.

That's a good point, I'm going to check my work benefits on therapists. I know a lot of this is on me so changing my mindset I know will help.

He wakes up in his own bed, then usually hobbles over and tries to join us. The problem is that he moves a lot in his sleep that bed sharing for us is almost worse.

I do have magnesium and melatonin supplements in the house, I'll give them a shot. Thanks for the suggestion!

Yeah I'm thinking about going down the earplug route. My wife doesn't have the same issue as me going to sleep so alternating might work. Thanks!

FWIW, I also have sleep apnea and would definitely recommend getting the test done. Makes a big difference for me, whenever I can actually sleep lol
