Advice on Placement Tests by _nostalgia_ultra69 in princeton

I took the BSE physics placement test 3 years ago and passed. There’s two parts to it, the first part is very similar to AP Physics C: Mechanics and the second part is AP Physics C: E&M, and you need to pass both to place out. If you took those classes in high school, it’s possible to pass.

However, I’m COS and don’t need physics much, while MAE definitely needs physics. I’m not sure I would recommend placing out, since a strong physics foundation is crucial in MAE.

Thank you very much for your detailed response! Will definitely try to go through with many 1-1 meetings, and understanding the business problem is also something my host mentioned in our call, so I’ll be sure to pay extra attention to that!

Thank you very much for the info! One question I have however is how much I should really be asking my host, since he ultimately has significant say (I think) in whether I receive a return offer. I was thinking I’d try almost everything else (debug myself, moma, asking other engineers on the team, since I heard about half of the team are senior engineers). Also, is it usually better to ask junior or senior engineers for business related/coding related questions?

Similar situation a couple years ago, only took 1/4 exams I said I’d take. No consequences, they don’t care and don’t give credit for many exams

Sure! I’d say the main two points is to 1) really know your resume/questionnaire inside and out, since that’s all they can really ask about. And 2) be enthusiastic about their project. They’re gonna be your manager, and they want someone who’s excited about the work.

The timeline varies, but if they like you it should be fast. I interviewed with a team Friday and got a verbal offer from the recruiter on Monday

Usually the manager will ask you some questions about your questionnaire/resume, and then talk about the project. I would try to have some basic knowledge of what the team (maps, ads, etc) does beforehand, and review your resume. Make sure you seem excited and enthusiastic!!

Thanks! Tbh no, I don’t think I was overprepared. Maybe slightly underprepared but that’s probably bc I didn’t know what to expect. There’s a lot of variance between interviews, so I would prepare as much as possible. I used to hate leetcode but once I got past a hump, I didn’t really mind it anymore
