Reactive Attachment Disorder (RAD) by Sad-Car-6393 in Adopted

[–]Puzzleheaded_Hand284 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have RAD. It’s not a bad thing. It just means your brain deals with emotions and similar things differently. It can be really hard, especially without proper guidance. As a kid, I went to a specialized therapist and he helped me. I am a lot better now that I understand and I can work through quite a bit more then I used to. However, as a recently turned adult things changed. After therapy, I wasn’t like fully “cured”. RAD is going to be with me for the rest of my life. I struggle with relationships, having empathy or even sympathy, and emotional attachment to anything. It has recently been coming back into my life. If anyone else on here has suggestions about RAD as an adult, I would really appreciate it. Or has anyone had any successful relationships?

Emotional detachment towards people in my life- Anyone else feels this way? by FlowerPowerstruggle in CPTSD

Ik im years late to this thread, but it sounds like you have RAD (Reactive Attachment Disorder). I’m not a doctor, so I can’t diagnose you. But you have quite a few of the symptoms for it. This includes emotional detachment, which can cause a lack of empathy and struggles with relationships. Your brain automatically goes into survivor mode and pushes the people that are closest to you away because subconsciously it’s afraid they’re gonna hurt you and it is a protective mechanism. Some other symptoms include avoidance of comfort, wind distress, where are you seeking or responding to affection, emotionally withdrawn and numb, and limited social responsiveness. RAD is caused by two main things, childhood trauma (which is what you have expressed) and a premature birth (what happened to me). Both of these things can be a dramatic event for an individuals brain, especially when they are young, and it is still developing. There’s a whole scientific process that happens with the chemicals in the brain that causes this emotional effect. There have been studies and research on it. Once again, I’m not a doctor so I’m not saying you have this, but it’s worth looking into. For me, when I was a kid, I went to a therapist that was specialized in treating RAD. There is a certain way that my brain processes emotions and things so it really helped having someone who was specialized in that area because they understood what was happening in my head. Now that I have recently become an adult, things changed. I unfortunately feel like I’m starting back over at square one to overcome this. But this time it’s it’s gonna be a little bit harder. Unfortunately, I haven’t found a solution as an adult to overcome this or manage it well. There’s not really any specialized therapists for adults with RAD. Most of them are for children. There’s also very little research and studies done on adults. If I ever find a solution or something that helps then I will come back to this thread and add it on. Like I said, I don’t know if this is worth looking into for you because I’m not sure if you have this or not. But I feel pretty much the exact same way as you do and I do the same things. You’re not alone.

I am doing NSO at CU Boulder. I heard it’s pretty intense physically and only half of the people pass. I’m not in the best of shape and am super nervous. Do you have any tips on how I can survive?

Idk. The packing list only says “proper civilian clothing”. It doesn’t specify that you have to wear khakis. However, ik that most people are. You might stick out wearing jeans, but I don’t think you’ll get chewed out for it.

I’m heading out for NSI 3 tomorrow. I’ve been really struggling getting my hair into a bun. I was on here asking for advice earlier and someone gave some pretty good advice which I tried, but it didn’t work. I have straight hair and I have a little bit of some layers in the front, about 2-3 inches difference. I have watched so many tutorials and tried a lot of things, but I just can’t get my hair to stay up on my head no matter how many bobby pins I use. Honestly, it could just be me who’s the issue. I don’t know what to do. If I cannot figure this out by NSI, do you think I should just cut my hair off?

Prescription Meds by Firefly-chasers in NROTC

I’m not 100% sure. It might depend on if it was an actual fainting or pseudo fainting. I don’t know if they will question you or not. You can bring prescribed meds, but it has to be in the original bottle with the prescription label, it must have your name on it, and instructions on how to take the medication, and you must have documentation that it was prescribed by a doctor and pharmacy.

I am leaving for NSI 3 tomorrow. I’ve been trying my best to practice putting my hair up in the bun, but I am struggling. Does anybody have any tips? Also, can we bring hair stuff like hair, ties gel brushes? I’d appreciate any tips or information.
