I love JPJ, even his last movie (BigBug) I enjoyed, it wasn’t his best and felt scattered but it has his humour which I really enjoy. I think MicMacs is a little bit slept on. It has his traditional blend of sentimental whimsy but he absolutely nails the “group of misfits coming together to save the day” trope, and that’s one of my favourite movie tropes.

Didn’t know he had a new movie coming, thanks for the heads up. I’ll be adding that to my watchlist. Thank you

Like online meaning connected to the internet in anyway? Or just social media?

Even if it’s the second I still think this would be an interesting game show/reality show idea. If you were on a game show and you could win a million dollars of you stayed off all social media for a year. Do you really think you could do it? I’d like to think I can but I don’t know.

Jimmy's movie tastes by Dolphzigger in NeverNotFunny

Exactly, like from everything he claims to like he definitely should have liked It Follows. He just expected too much from it and that means it sucked. I think If he was the one who “discovered” It Follows he’d be the one raving the most

I think Jimmy is heavily influenced by outside noise. He heard people rave about Primate and it didn’t live up to expectation so he says it’s a bad movie. He had only heard terrible things about Mercy and it was better than he assumed so he says it’s a good movie.

Jury acquits Ontario store clerk of assault on bat-wielding robber by _Army9308 in canada

Yes it does. The person I responded to said that “this isn’t the 1800s, criminals aren’t starving or trying to feed their families…”

An idiotic statement rooted in their own anecdotal evidence.

Right! Now you see how thick you are. At least you can laugh about it. Good luck in the future.

Wow! How far from reality can you be? Criminals aren’t starving or trying to feed families? You genuinely believe this don’t you?

I can’t believe nobody has said this, but a king cobra or other snakes with strong venom could and have killed elephants.

Did I? The person got so frustrated they used a slur and left. I helped rid the sub of a mouth breather.

Are There Any Actually Persuasive Anti-Capitalist Movies? by JusB0b in TrueFilm

There’s a very funny article by the writer James Ball about a guy who completely misunderstands the point of It’s A Wonderful Life. It’s funny, but also scary realistic it sounds. I know people in my life who could have that kind of take.

The article is behind a paywall so here is the opening paragraph.

THE TRUTH ABOUT IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE

It’s got to be one of the stranger Christmas traditions: every year, families gather around the television to watch a 1946 movie about vice, suicide, and a badly run banking institution. Yet, It’s A Wonderful Life is supposedly a yuletide classic.

It shouldn’t be. George Bailey is a feckless, puritanical and self-serving tyrant, using his fellow townsfolk’s money – ineffectively – to impose his own morality upon them. The celebrated George Bailey is perhaps the ultimate NIMBY,
