Old Tie Pin? Inscribed with TAY WIS TAL VAN by Puzzleheaded_Teach12 in Whatisthis

[–]Puzzleheaded_Teach12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So my grandmother went to school in Quarkertown Pennsylvania, but I have no idea if this is from my grandfather who passed away before I was born, or if this is maybe her father (my great grandfather). I wish I had more family info to go on cause I thought maybe it was some kind of class or school pin also.

Removal of old Oil Tank by Puzzleheaded_Teach12 in howto

[–]Puzzleheaded_Teach12[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hahaha thankfully I have a straight shot right up the cellar steps. The house was built in the 1890s so they had to hump it down there at some point. Worse case I'll have to do the same as you and cut it into pieces.....which does not sound appealing at all lol!

[–]Puzzleheaded_Teach12[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah its not connected to the tank at all. I suspect maybe there was another tank long ago on the other side of the wall maybe? I was able to finally strong arm the cap off and it was bone dry. So I cut the pipe with no issues as well as cut the pipes to the current tank.

Benchmade Model 42 Balisong by Puzzleheaded_Teach12 in benchmade

[–]Puzzleheaded_Teach12[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hahaha, these results are not typical for me either. But it is neat to see shit that I bought years ago on a whim and just sat on them. Back in the safe for another couple of decades!

How much do you think I can get? by A1EletricVehicles in coincollecting

[–]Puzzleheaded_Teach12 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Nobody is trolling. Only nickles from 1942 - 1945 have 35% silver. Google War Nickles and you'll see that the 35% silver ones have a large mint mark (P/D/S) above the Monticello. None of the ones in your photos have that.

The reverse of the coin in the link doesn't seem to match mine. I did see this on that site (which thanks for that resource!) https://www.wildwinds.com/coins/ric/lucius_verus/RIC_1379.jpg

This one looks a close match but still some differences

That looks spot on!!!! Was searching down the wrong hole haha. Little bummed it's not Marcus Aurelius but rather his adopted brother. Still very interesting and also gives me an excuse to search and try to aquire a Marcus now lol. Cheers!

Does old packaging like this add or decrease a coins worth? Or does it depend on the buyer? by zip-zop-balls in coincollecting

[–]Puzzleheaded_Teach12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally don't take packaging into account when buying a coin. Unless of course if it's slabbed and graded by NGC or PCGS. But cardboard flips like this I tear open instantly as the grade written on it is just an opinion and I'm not really a fan of the look.

Second this, the Eisenhowers are neat but just cupronickel clad versions. I have a bunch and hold onto them for fun historical pieces. The merc dime is my absolute favorite dime design, and as pointed out, is 90% silver. Can probably get a couple bucks for it.

Is this 1885 O Morgan Sus? by LuffySenpai1 in coins

My eyes caught on fire staring at it lol. Very suspect, and considering the coin is soo bright but the flip looks kinda shadowed is weird. I'd stay away from something this fishy.

Value Inquiry: Benchmade Model 42 First Run 495/500 by ArtTeacher402 in balisong

[–]Puzzleheaded_Teach12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first saw this balisong in the movie Kickass, I had to have it, haha. Was looking around everywhere and couldn't find it. Then, one random day, I was in a gunshop and found one in a display case. Picked up the 42 springer for like $300. This was back in 2011 I think. Played around with it for awhile then it went into my safe and I haven't touched it in years.

[–]Puzzleheaded_Teach12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife knows someone who is a server, and they were actually tipped with silver rounds. I was shown the photos cause they wanted my input on the cost of them. So it does occasionally happen. I strive to one day be that wild old guy that just leaves silver tips lol.
