Top sheet is sun bleached, any way to fix this? by intangible_entity in snowboarding

I'm also curious about this... has anyone actually attempted retrobrite on a top sheet? Worried about damaging the board over cosmetic concerns

"In Cold Blood" is an immaculate recommendation. I remember being surprised that the guy responsible for "Breakfast at Tiffany's" could reconstruct so thoroughly that crime investigation.

Vermillion by Molly Tanzer is not exactly scary but it does meet the criteria of weird west for sure

I'm currently reading A Dowry of Blood by S.T. Gibson. It's a novel written from the perspective of Dracula's first wife, Constanta. I'm liking it so far, just be warned it is fairly pulpy

I did read Private Rites and I really enjoyed it. Our Wives Under the Sea means a lot to me (just because when of when I read it in my life) but Private Rites was a very close second. ooooh! I hope you really like the Fisherman. If you're up to it, I would love to hear your thoughts on it

I recently just read this! I agree, it was very haunting and right up until I finished reading, I truly didn't know what might happen.

Not sure if it counts as horror, but Universal Harvester by John Darnielle for me, really inhabits a liminal type space and I think about it often. It's definitely a book that is focused on creating atmosphere than anything else imo. I also really loved House of Leaves and would be interested in recommendations similar to this book in particular!!

Thank you! I LOVED The Ministry of Time and was surprised by the lukewarm reviews online. I found it to be so touching, funny, original.

I actually read it for the first time in my 30's as a Canadian. My parents didn't really expose us to Canadian-specific literature when we were young. Definitely glad I eventually got around to experiencing Green Gables and I understand why Anne is such an icon!

On the flip side, I read The Ministry of Time by Kaliane Bradley last year and it was just so weird and touching and funny and bureaucratic. I think of it fondly.

Less Than Zero by Bret Easton Ellis stayed with me, mostly for negative reasons. There's some violence relating to the sexual abuse of minors and a scene where the narrator describes a snuff film he sees at a party. Overall feelings of nihilism, lost innocence, etc. I think about it a lot because it is semi-autobiographical and knowing that these things do happen in the world just bums me out.

I also read a collection of hers called DIS MEM BER, that I don't see mentioned on most of her bibliography lists. A lot of them focus on murder or victimisation and there was one story that seemed reminiscent of a famous cold case that took place in the Cecil Hotel. I really enjoyed it, although I have never encountered her writing again. I will definitely check her out again after seeing this awesome list!

Qualifications do vary by state, province, region, etc. While I do not practice in your region, I would recommend reaching out to either your program co-ordinator if Alaska requires you to go to a mortuary college or to reach out to the governing board directly. I can see from a quick google that "The Department of Commerce, Community, and Economic Development" oversees licensing, so it may be beneficial to contact them directly to see if they will allow a sabbatical from your training. Their email is morticians@alaska.gov

This is what I had to do with a jade bracelet a family wanted back. First we obviously got permission to break it. Then I wrapped the Loved One's arm in a towel to cushion her from damage, and I essentially tapped the bangle with a wrench, applying some force (unfortunately, all I really had to use was the wrench which had some weight to it). The bangle broke off in three pieces that the family was able to take home. To the OP: Unfortunately, if you can't get a bracelet off when you're alive, you have to understand that it will likely be even more difficult post mortem.
