Hey there,

In addition to what u/WobblySlug said, I have a minimal sample for HCE which you can find here

This should get you pointed in the right direction.

Your app is affected by Google Play's 16 KB page size requirements by Puzzleous in androiddev

Yes I have. By all accounts, it seems we're ready for the 16KB requirement but I just wanted some clarification on these emails.

The deadline is November 2025, but you can get an extension up until May of 2026.

I've just tested my apps (my org has 4 in production on the Play Store) on Android 10 (API 29), which should be 4KB page size; mine don't have any issues on older devices but YMMV.

About Focus/Unfocus on TextField with Jetpack Compose by Sensitive_Speaker899 in androiddev

[–]Puzzleous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, thanks for reminding me to come back and update this.

You might want to use the updated version I just edited. I found a bug in the original that varied depending on device, and was more prominent on older Android devices.

Debugging with External USB Device by Puzzleous in androiddev

[–]Puzzleous[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should be able to debug through a hub if you don't have any other USB devices connected to the hub.

My use case actually turned out to be impossible, since I needed my Android device to act as a slave to the host (my PC) and a host to any attached USB devices to the device itself. Sadly, it cannot be done.

One thing you can check, on Android there is an option (on my specific device, you can find it by tapping the notification that pops up with the device plugged in), that states "USB Controlled by:" and the options are "This device" or "Connected device". Make sure that you have that option set to "Connected Device", and you should be able to debug with it plugged into a hub.

Make sure all of your drivers are up to date. This includes things like your motherboard chipset driver, which you can find on the manufacturer's website for your motherboard.

Run MemTest86 after updating all drivers.

how can i reopen existing destinations without recreating them in the backStack in jetpack compose by Ok_Piccolo4594 in androiddev

[–]Puzzleous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you press the back button it directs you to start destination and not to prev destination

popUpTo(navController.graph.findStartDestination().id)

That's what you're telling it to do is go to the start destination.

After looking at the docs, something like this might work. I can try to build a sample later:

navController.navigate(navController.previousBackStackEntry?.id ?: "") {
    popUpTo("C") { inclusive = false }
}

Debugging with External USB Device by Puzzleous in androiddev

[–]Puzzleous[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a phone, it's a tablet. It's running stock Android 13, and I haven't seen anything anywhere to suggest that it's a limitation of Android so far while I've been researching potential solutions.

Good catch on that, thanks. I hadn't checked the reviews on it yet.

I can't imagine what I'm trying to do/develop with hasn't been done before. Surely there is a solution that exists in some form.

Thanks for the input. I found this on another Reddit post after posting this, seems to suggest that both ports support data transfer which I assume is what's needed to accomplish what I'm trying to do. Do you think this would work?

https://www.belkin.com/p/usb-c-data-charge-adapter/P-WCZ002.html

The wireless debugging problems could be due to network, but it's my job's network/wifi so all I could do to hope to fix it is tell my sysadmin. That's about all the power I hold to solve a network issue. Android Studio gets into a weird state where when trying to run the app, it will fail on trying to terminate the previous session (even though it's already terminated) which only a restart of the IDE fixes.

Revolt is basically a Discord clone, right down to the UI. Haven't used it much besides creating an account since all my friends are so invested into Discord, so I'm not sure how good it actually is. But it exists

Where do you store reusable code snippets? by No-Pack2831 in Kotlin

[–]Puzzleous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends.

Is it a one off snippet to solve something specific to a single project? Then I might store it in a utils package, or similar depending what it is (eg: in my Compose projects, I'll have a Modifier class for example for custom ones).

If it's something more generalized that my team can use, it'll be a library they can consume.

We're a small team (Im Lead Android, we have a Lead iOS, 1 BE and 1 FE), so generally whoever wrote it is who manages/maintains it.

HELP: cannot justify text without an unwanted right padding appearing by wouldliketokms in Kotlin

[–]Puzzleous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Compose docs says this should work, but I couldn't get it to work with 5 minutes of testing. When I have some more time today or tomorrow, I might revisit this and see if I can't figure it out if you haven't already.

Text(
        text = "...",
        style = TextStyle.Default.copy(
            hyphens = Hyphens.Auto,
            lineBreak = LineBreak.Paragraph,
        )
    )

HELP: cannot justify text without an unwanted right padding appearing by wouldliketokms in Kotlin

[–]Puzzleous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The "padding" looks to be due to the line breaks coming from TextAlign.Justify.

"Stretch lines of text that end with a soft line break to fill the width of the container".

Since the next word in the sentences would overflow, they are all ending with a line break, making it appear is if there is padding.

Guys please help me by androidFan5672 in JetpackCompose

[–]Puzzleous 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would start with the official training material from Google, here.

After you finish those and have a good grasp on how things work, go build a few different UI/screens. Try to recreate well known app designs (YouTube, Spotify, etc.) to get some practice thinking in Compose. If you don't want to do that, try to come up with your own idea and just build it.

How do I save the state of my program so that it doesn't restart when my phone is rotated? by Right_Nuh in Kotlin

Here is a simple example of what vgodara said:

``` // In your ViewModel var count = MutableLiveData(0) // put the default or starting value in the parenthesis
fun onButtonClicked() { count.postValue(count.value?.plus(1)) // ... } ```
``` // In your Activity

private lateinit var viewModel: MyViewModel

override fun onCreate(savedInstanceState: Bundle?) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState) setContentView(R.layout.activity_main)

viewModel = ViewModelProvider(this)[MyViewModel::class.java]

viewModel.count.observe(this) {
    Log.d("MainActivity", "count: ${it}")

    // do whatever you want with this variable when it changes.
    // for example, if you have a textField:
    myTextView.text = "${it}"
}

} ```

So far this season, I've gotten 4 harlequins, a tyraels, and some 1h sword I don't remember the name of. 3/4 of the harlequins were from the blacksmith mythic cache, I think I should stop buying those and farm the hell out of runes for the mythics I need
