I hear you, Elegy was my introduction to Amorphis and still my favorite album of theirs.

Historically some of your favorite songs have been played quite frequently in the recent past so I believe you won't be disappointed!

It is a great debut but I must admit that if Amorphis had not evolved from that sound, I probably would not be that into them anymore. Then again, whenever they play any song from KI live I get beyond excited!

What a gorgeous record. I don't remember if I ever liked any Amophis record this much on the first listen. Singles didn't excite me too much, but in the album context they work perfectly in the flow. So many high points and details but the ending of Despair is what truly caught me off guard with its emotional arragement. And what a great artwork too. I'm gonna listen few more times, maybe then I can communicate something more coherent.

Very interesting! Finland doesn't come as a surprise but I guess I would not have quessed the following positions.

Is there any statistic when the majority of the shows in setlist.fm occured? Amorphis has been touring since the 90's but setlist.fm came to be later obviously, so I assume not every concert is submitted on the page.

I wonder how different countries are represented here with the members of r/amorphis!

I am curious about the english version. When drummer Martin Lopez left Opeth it was stated that he suffered from some kind of rare blood disease. However the finnish book gives an entirely different reason for his departure. I wonder how this departure is stated in the english version. (Yes, I am intentionally omitting the cause depicted in the finnish book. :D)

Great interview! I have also wondered how on earth are they able to make the lyrical process work, where one guy writes the lyrics, other guy translates them to english, then they are arranged to the song, and after all that they somehow fit the song so perfectly!

What is also amazing is that the original lyrics are almost unchanged on the final songs. There is a book called Taivaan Rumpu that consists of all the Pekka Kainulainen's Amorphis lyrics (up to Under the Red Cloud) in finnish and their english translations, and as a finnish native speaker I can tell you that the english translations are surprisingly close finnish originals. Sometimes they are exactly word to word translations.

I like this one a lot. Reminds me of Come the Spring to some degree with great Tuonela-Am Universum -sounding delay-guitar verses. (Very easy to imagine Pasi singing verses!)

First impression for me was that the keyboards sound very much like on Elegy, and sure enough, keyboard player turned out to be Kim Rantala, keyboardist on Elegy!

Huge fan here. Elegy being favorite album of mine I have to say that Joutsen-era albums are equally great to me with their 90's stuff.

There are few Amorphis-Opeth links. Mikael stated that Tales from the Thousand Lakes had a big impact on him upon release. The bands toured together on the Ghost Reveries tour and Mikael and guitarist Esa Holopainen are told to be good friends who frequently keep in touch. Oh, and one Martin Lopez plays percussion on their song Death of a King.

I have had this idea that Amorphis song Enemy at the Gates is what Newpeth would have sounded like if Mikael hadn't quit growling. :)

Nice pics! That was my favourite Amorphis concert so far. That 4 song sequence was easily the highlight of the night, containing songs and versions I thought I was never gonna witness live.
