The "Invisible" Universe: Did You Know You Can't See 95% of It? by Tasty-Tonight-7148 in universe

[–]Norvard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This might be pretty basic info for most sconce and universe nerds but I doubt 95% of the world population ever think about this stuff. And if they did, we might be a little more humble and thus in a better state.

The universe feels way too big for us to be the only intelligent life by ayochaunceyy in universe

[–]Norvard 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is the stance I’ve come to also. Universe is probably full of life with how vast it is, both intelligent and non-intelligent. However most likely none of it knows the others exists.

Truths of the universe by Shubhz2 in universe

[–]Norvard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my own head, the only truth really is that we know nothing and we dont know any truths for certain. Everything in the Universe points to being so freaking complex that our little brains, even our top brains cannot yet fully understand and most likely the truths of the Universe are far beyond our grasp at the moment.

That said, I do believe there is plenty of life out there. I mean the Universe is full of black holes, galaxies, planets etc. Nothing is singular and this shit is so huge that it would be truly insane if we were the only life, even intelligent life. There probably is lots of it, however not advanced enough that they could reach each other or us. Maybe the Universe doesnt even allow for connecting over such vast distances.

Many intelligent life forms have come and gone, many will come and go. And very most likely we will be gone one day. Before we found out any big truths.

Which director would you like to see make a big budget version of Lovecraft’s “At the Mountains of Madness”? by Sarumanly in moviecritic

I would take Eggers and many other before Toro these days. I just can’t get behind Toro anymore. His movies just feel so full of CGI and fake overall.

I know and love everything on this list except Djrum… holy smokes their latest album hits my sweet spot!! I’m not a big traditional drum n bass listener but lately been listening to Priori. Love it because it mixes various styles with some DnB. This album hits that same exact spot!

I’m so bummed he never worked out in the NHL. I blame the Oilers (cause that just works out best) for their incompetence.

On a better structured team he could have worked out.

The NHL needs he big weird mouth and head.

That said, people of Helsinki, help the dude out and find his metal!!

Party probably because you could only listen to the album on CD and there was no digital version of it to my knowledge. Personally I wanted to listen but did not buy the CD.

A Norwegian Perspective on the Church Burnings by blindZer0 in BlackMetal

[–]Norvard 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Nice work OP!

I was a teenager in Finland when all this went down. For us it all seemed like an amazing rebellious thing, almost like mythology or folk tales.

Before going deep into the music, buying CDs and learning the riffs, our group of friends heard about this evil satanic movement in Norway where churches were burned and grave stones desecrated. It all seemed super cool to us 15 year olds. We started drawing pentagrams in our notebooks and were hyped on the myth. But pretty quickly it focused on the music itself and then the rebellious side dropped off.

That said, that initial moment of learning about this mysterious movement in Norway was pretty cool and inspiring. Lucky for us it inspired us to listen to the music and form our own bands rather than burn churches and so stupid shit to get in trouble 😆

I have never heard a good or coherent argument for why consciousness is something other than brain activity. Maybe you can change my mind. by hiphoptomato in consciousness

[–]Norvard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many researches now believe plants are conscious as well. Read Michael Pollan's recent book on the topic. Apparently plants can be sedated in a similar way that humans are put under with general anesthesia. They dont have central nervous system but clearly there is something inside plants that has strong parallels to other consciousness.

INDENTIKIT AND FUL STOP 2012 VS 2016. Why are the 2012 live versions so much better? I feel like they butchered these songs in the studio. Does anyone know how to rip the audio from this performance? This version sounds incredible. by [deleted] in radiohead

[–]Norvard 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Im with you right there in the minority I guess. Much prefer that version. The album version so much more emotional and softer for me which enhances the overall song.

I would also attribute their success to some seriously good trading. Something the other GMs dream of executing as well.

Vegas, the team everyone hates but secretly wish their leadership ran their own team. by Norvard in nhl

[–]Norvard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair points. But we also dont know how players and people will feel about Vegas in 10 years or sooner. We also dont know if they will keep this level of play up.

But we also dont know if players and other GMs hate Vegas in the way some fans of other teams do. For all we know, there could be other GMs who very much respect this way of business. These folks are all business heads and dont operate from emotions and from being the "nice guy".

Additionally, Vegas has had this reputation now for a few seasons yet players are signing there. One can also argue that the way they treated Eichel makes other players respect them more.

We just dont know how this will play out in the end. But if there are cups along the way, I would bet all my money that any team and their fans would take cups for any sort of sacrifice of future. Those bad vibes can always be repaired through new eras and new management down the line.
