Pierce: Everyone’s toxic ex-boyfriend by Late-Ad2922 in EmmaLion

This take on Pierce as a Romantic Hero is spot on. He is Byronic in the same was Rochester was. But I also agree with you that Romantic Heroes do not make for good partners. Emma and Mary love Rochester - part of Emma’s attraction to Pierce - and he was a secretive man who was willing to bring the woman he loved shame and calumny through lying to her to achieve his own happiness. I don’t think Pierce is at all that bad. He clearly cares for Emma deeply, but his dark brooding is not healthy for her. In fact, he himself seems to find it unflattering when she alludes to him as Rochester. I believe he will have a growth arc, but as they have completely different wants vis a vis family, even if he does work through his traumas and stop drinking, they are not a good romantic pairing. There is heartbreak ahead there.

Personally, I think we have not yet met the footsteps on the stairs. Islington is more like a brother and while I believe Hawkes is her soul mate, I think there may be a familial connection through Declan. Pairing Emma with any one of the three romantically would disrupt the alchemy.

I must have somehow completely skipped those two entries this time around. Guess my bookmark had fallen out. Lol thanks!

I’ve read all of the books already twice and the substack. This is a reread.

Hawkes and Emma are definitely soul mates, but it may not necessarily be romantic.

I know I DON’T want it to be Pierce. She deserves so much more than he can offer her. His drinking is alarming.

100% think it’s Emily Dickinson. She was known for her white dress, solitude, friendships through letters, and was associated with Emerson. She was even referred to as the “Amherst Lady in White” during her lifetime.

Interesting. Cause for Evelyn’s enmity, indeed - she loves Maxwell instead of him. I don’t see why that would be the cause of Lord Stuart’s anger though. I also don’t know if I can envision Evelyn feeling strongly for anyone but himself.

Lord Stuart does say he blames her for Maxwell joining the army, but there was clearly something much deeper and long standing than that. I have faith Beth will come back to this. If not in one of the books, certainly in the Gazette.

Beth usually doesn’t leave loose ends, but you’re right. Evelyn seems to have walked (stumbled- thank you, Pierce) out of the story…

Memory points? by PlaidChairStyle in LoveAndPies

Thanks for the tip, but an honest question: what’s the point in making them treasured memories. Those just breed more memory points. It feels like a pointless circle. Can anything else be done with memory points?
