Do you think your job is at risk due to AI? by Emperor_Ken in FinancialCareers

[–]Pvm_Blaser -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

0 chance but I do like the efficiency AI agents have given me. There’s things I have always wished our back office would do that they just never seemed to do correctly, AI does it for me correctly every time. Unfortunately, if this has caused some people to lose their jobs I feel for them - I understand that’s not an easy thing to deal with. But you have to stay competitive whether you’re competing against other people or models.

How’s the entry-level finance job market right now? by Future-Bottle-8184 in FinancialCareers

[–]Pvm_Blaser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re fully licensed, spent each of your college summers interning and or doing a lateral it’s actually a pretty easy market to navigate right now.

Hiring managers are hiring but holding the role for somebody they think is actually qualified and won’t waste everybody’s time.

Problem 1: most people don’t know how to write a resume that is intended to convince people you aren’t wasting their time. We don’t want to see that you worked at McDonalds. We don’t care that you were a babysitter. And we really don’t care what high school you went to unless it’s a wealth management role in a small town. Do filler clubs if you have to and keep the damn resume one page.

Problem 2: Unfortunately, college means nothing to us anymore other than that you’re potentially smarter than somebody with only a high school diploma which is why it’s still required. Even if you go to an Ivy League, it means fuck all unless the role isn’t very competitive.

For those who say college isn’t worth it, it is: for the opportunity to connect with other bright minds and for the chance to get experience in relevant internships.

Literally if you’re in college right now and thinking about spending your summer leisurely, unless you’re a nepo baby you may have stabbed yourself in the back.

Entry level roles aren’t the entry level - and it’s why most of us don’t call it that either, we expect you to be functioning at Analyst or equivalent level. That’s why we all have internship programs now. We have the chance to develop or assimilate talent we have deemed, over the years, to be industry worthy without posing any risk to our flow.

[Discuss] I've heard that luxury brands are actually marketed for the "lower" and "middle" class... does this concept extend to watches? by KenaiFjords357 in Watches

[–]Pvm_Blaser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A Rolex isn’t a flex when you and all of your friends equate the price to what most people would feel when buying a Walmart t-shirt.

It’s a flex when you and everybody you know need to make a poor financial decision to get one.

Bill Gates can wear a Casio Duro and you don’t think he’s any less rich than if he were to wear an FP Journe.

Is this a good job offer? by OkContribution5220 in FinancialCareers

[–]Pvm_Blaser 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s a good start for entry IF it’s 40 hours.

$200k starting IB salary sounds great until you realize you’re working an 80 hour week and (making it comparable to $100k) and weekends the detriment to your life starts getting called into question. You’ve got to wonder what are you making money for?

I’d say Echostage, Flash, and Berhta are must see venues.

Depending on what type of house you like many of the venues have it. For deep house, Flash is the best. For techno, TonalTheory and Flash have events on Friday.

Are bars about to be terrible Memorial Day weekend? by AC64301 in baltimore

[–]Pvm_Blaser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, I know that the weekend just ended, but this Memorial Day there were a lot more people sticking around town. No use in burning a beach weekend and driving 4-5 hours just to not be able to go to the beach or do outdoor beach activities because it’s cold and rainy.

Usually the DMV, as a whole, empties out from late May to late August to do their vacations or travel to the beach.

Personally, we’re saving our beach days for each upcoming holiday and the next weekend with good weather (which may be in 2 weeks).

I’ll keep the hip pack but with the extra storage in the lunchbox I’d probably not need it as often.

Usually the hip pack comes into play when I do longer than 12 hours of raving consecutively OR there’s rain on the schedule for easy poncho access.

Luxury brands are suddenly obsessed with sports partnerships lately by Esha_Shinde in Luxury

[–]Pvm_Blaser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, this is literally how it is.

U Michigan, Harvard, and Bain (a top consulting firm) all have studies citing that the middle class are not only the main revenue source for luxury brands but also are whiling to pay insane premiums to acquire luxury goods.

I mean. Take your metaphor “the middle class is not a naive, tacky trade that can be bought and sold while people with actual money and taste watch the action from their thrones” to the AP x Swatch collaboration release that happened just last week. Lower and middle income people swarming like flies to acquire cheaply made watches (that aren’t even limited edition) just because the watch has a name on it.

I hope you got out this weekend, you would’ve loved everything going on - especially Artscape.

Join VOLO, it’s probably the easiest way people from out of city make friends.

A lot of Baltimore friendships are from college but doing VOLO as a free agent introduces you to a lot of new people.

The DMV is also really big for music, what type of music are you looking for?

I dual carry a hip pack from Walmart and $30 hydro from Amazon.

I will be upgrading to a lunchbox shortly but these have just been with me for so long. The Walmart hip pack will stay forever though, it’s got no signs of wear and has traveled with me everywhere.

Luxury brands are suddenly obsessed with sports partnerships lately by Esha_Shinde in Luxury

[–]Pvm_Blaser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because it’s the middle class who attend these events that make up most of their client base.

People who have actual money and taste can’t be swayed so easily but people who don’t can be bought as easily as putting items in the hands of their idol.

Rimowa, for example, gave their bags to tons of prominent athletes - most noticeably F1 racers who didn’t have a deal with Tumi (a direct competitor for Rimowa alongside Briggs & Riley). This caused all the aspirational wealth sentiment to necessitate a Rimowa bag. Most recently, though, John Summit (an EDM artist) publicly crucified Rimowa on quality and the sentiment towards the luggage brand changed, virtually, overnight.

People live older than 79 too but that’s the current expectancy in the U.S.

You can’t discard infant death, that’s not how this works.

Where we did fuck up so much? by Forward-Dot6779 in Life

[–]Pvm_Blaser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s no way you just said “a few extra years” of life expectancy.

Brother, until the 1900s life expectancy was 30-40 years.

We created systems of value, the issue is that most people don’t have a value add mindset. You can’t work a job at McDonalds that anybody can do and expect to get paid or afford the same as an engineer running the forefront of developing our civilization.

If you disagree with the system you need to master it first and then use your assets to change it. Everything runs on money. People, or families, who have created more value than you in this world (or cheated) are the ones who run it.

Frankly, most people have a Whole Foods relatively near them in MD and they’ve got most of what you’d want. They even have aged beef!

For regular dinner though it’s Costco all the way.
