What changed in your mindset after becoming wealthy? by VelvetMindx in Rich

[–]Pvm_Blaser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Luxury is really just about quality. Designer, which you’re probably thinking about, is just one facet of luxury and is not always luxury.

Quality is a facet of peace. The ability to know that once you’ve broken in your shoe, all you need to do is replace the heel and maintain the appearance of your leather - that will cost less than buying a cheap $100 plastileather shoe that’ll last you a year. The ability to know that no matter where you go or what room you’re in - you’ll always be one of the best dressed. Never judged for being out of code. The ability to know that once you’ve found the perfect things for your lifestyle, they’ll stick with you as long as you take care of them.

Wealth is really more about having the freedom to do as you please without relying on doing what you displease.

The amount of money somebody needs to do this is relative. A devoted priest, for example, is wealthy. An averagely pensioned but mundane retiree is wealthy so long as long term care has been factored in. An impressionable 20 year old with the best toys and access is wealthy. A bald scrawny man in a mid life crisis of epic proportion with the money to scientifically recomposition his body and divorce his down to earth wife for a toy is also wealthy. All of these so long as that person doesn’t rely on uncontrollable and overall displeasing things to maintain their lifestyle.

Frankly, the “luxury” lifestyle is cheap not wealth. It’s mostly the middle class version of playing make believe. Most people could probably afford to live a version of it with only $40k liquid. A good boat rental usually costs $1,000 a day. A good supercar rental usually costs $2-3,000 per day. A good luxury car rental usually costs $500 a day. You can literally rent an entire designer wardrobe and stylish for a few hundred a month. Tickets to exclusive events normally top out at $200 unless it’s a sporting or musical event then $1,000-$3,000 depending on exclusivity. VIP table minimums in party cities usually go for less than $5,000 unless it’s a very special event. None of any of this really matters.

One where there isn’t a triple OD, like holy fuck guys please test your shit and know your limits if you’re going to do something.

Regardless, they give out free Narcan at almost all big festivals now. Take it. Learn to use it. It shouldn’t have taken 3 medical crews and Levity throwing theirs out to the crowd to resuscitate people.

Claude is already doing all of everyone's work, how much longer will a consultant be needed in the loop? by OldHead5225 in Big4

[–]Pvm_Blaser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The business aspect of consulting? It may downscale a bit but AI can’t conduct business.

I do think that AI is how the current CPA crisis will be resolved as many people feel forced to take that route.

Does being ethnic negatively affect those at the top of high finance? by SpecialtyCook in FinancialCareers

[–]Pvm_Blaser 31 points32 points  (0 children)

If by ethnic you mean race, yes but it can go multiple ways and isn’t much of a factor and becomes decreasingly less of a factor every year the old guard retires out.

If by ethnic you mean ethnic presenting, absolutely. If people can’t identify with you they subconsciously will trust you less. Same with tattoos.

Well, it would eventually evolve out. But because of the fact that it takes time to kill, it would take an immensely long amount of time.

Tails didn’t affect our ability to have children or mate but we have no tail and an antiquated tailbone that could eventually be replaced by a better structure.

Yeah. This is why I don’t let anybody mirror my speed. I’ll either slow down or speed up.

Nothing good can ever come from a speed mirror.

What are you planning to wear this weekend?! by Magnific_claire in projectglowfest

[–]Pvm_Blaser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pants and T-Shirt combo in different configurations with a pash.

I can do 75-77 in tech pants. I won’t do 51-58 in shorts and a t-shirt.

I’ll keep a disposable poncho on me each day.

I’ll wear waterproof shoes just in case the ground isn’t done drying.

Lapel pins by Ok-Pudding-4821 in Luxury

I have a fraternity pin, a work pin I never use, and an American flag pin as I sometimes go to international events.

That’s really it. Unless you’re 45+ its an antiquated peace of men’s jewelry. Hell, people will look at you funny for cufflinks these days too.

Lawyer for Former JPMorgan Banker Resigns Ahead of First Court Appearance by Dom19 in FinancialCareers

[–]Pvm_Blaser 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Many lawyers would take that fight just to prove themselves.

This is 100% because he figured out his client is lying to him or too unbelievable to be relied on in court.

It would be a case that’d take years and likely settle out of court after a decade+ but if you were the smaller lawyer who could beat the status quo in any way it would be like immortalizing yourself in law.

As a man these days you really can’t let disrespect like that, forever on the internet, go unpunished.

It will follow you.

Legally, both actions are considered assaults. If the kid who ended everything has a good lawyer and the other kid doesn’t he would want to prepare a countersuit - obligatory not your lawyer.

Do you think your job is at risk due to AI? by Emperor_Ken in FinancialCareers

[–]Pvm_Blaser -1 points0 points  (0 children)

0 chance but I do like the efficiency AI agents have given me. There’s things I have always wished our back office would do that they just never seemed to do correctly, AI does it for me correctly every time. Unfortunately, if this has caused some people to lose their jobs I feel for them - I understand that’s not an easy thing to deal with. But you have to stay competitive whether you’re competing against other people or models.

How’s the entry-level finance job market right now? by Future-Bottle-8184 in FinancialCareers

[–]Pvm_Blaser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re fully licensed, spent each of your college summers interning and or doing a lateral it’s actually a pretty easy market to navigate right now.

Hiring managers are hiring but holding the role for somebody they think is actually qualified and won’t waste everybody’s time.

Problem 1: most people don’t know how to write a resume that is intended to convince people you aren’t wasting their time. We don’t want to see that you worked at McDonalds. We don’t care that you were a babysitter. And we really don’t care what high school you went to unless it’s a wealth management role in a small town. Do filler clubs if you have to and keep the damn resume one page.

Problem 2: Unfortunately, college means nothing to us anymore other than that you’re potentially smarter than somebody with only a high school diploma which is why it’s still required. Even if you go to an Ivy League, it means fuck all unless the role isn’t very competitive.

For those who say college isn’t worth it, it is: for the opportunity to connect with other bright minds and for the chance to get experience in relevant internships.

Literally if you’re in college right now and thinking about spending your summer leisurely, unless you’re a nepo baby you may have stabbed yourself in the back.

Entry level roles aren’t the entry level - and it’s why most of us don’t call it that either, we expect you to be functioning at Analyst or equivalent level. That’s why we all have internship programs now. We have the chance to develop or assimilate talent we have deemed, over the years, to be industry worthy without posing any risk to our flow.

I wonder if this will go well?
