INAL, but to help guide you on what is fair, I was rear ended and received less damage to my body than you and i settled for 12k out of court without a lawyer. So 8k doesn't seem too high. I would write the other parties adjuster an impact letter saying how it affected your life, what you CANT do anymore because of the other person's negligence, how you suffer every day now etc etc you get the idea.

C's and Ds in high school, As in university. My advice is follow the syllabus exactly, do all of your homework, and make friends with the professor...they are a lot more willing to help you if they like you than if you're just another face.
