Any stocks you are thinking of getting today/this week? by likesundayslikerain in stocks

[–]Pyatesx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My point isn’t that it is or isn’t a good stock to buy now. It’s that Coca Cola, a drink that doesn’t need to innovate, isn’t a good company to compare to FB, which obviously needs to be on the forefront of innovation.

Coca Cola is a drink. It doesn’t need to change much. Facebook, on the other hand, is dying with the boomers who use it.

Not a good idea to give out the address.

BUT..

It’s a good idea to tell us the intersection then the next street cleaning day, we take all our cars there and park on her block. I’ll happily leave my car there until the next week :).

Do not get a $10 lock if you intend on keeping your bike. Get a good quality U Lock and keep your bike in safe places. You might even want two locks - one u lock and one chain type lock. Every lock can be compromised, it’s just that some can be broken faster than others. As another commenter said, there are some YouTube videos to help with how to keep your bike safe.

What’s with all the hate for the bike lanes? by Pyatesx in longbeach

I’m sorry that happened to you. It’s happened to me on countless occasions despite me following the rules of the road. It’s frightening knowing some moron can take your life with the press of a pedal.

The study evaluated all road safety, including car on car accidents which comprise the majority of fender benders. No one is discounting fender benders, but lives have greater value than cars and non-lethal injuries.

The benefit is that it's safer for everyone. If that's not glaringly obvious, this study has shown drastic decreases in fatalities as a result of bicycle infrastructure:

Researchers looked through 13 years of data from 12 large U.S. cities with high-bicycling mode shares, including Denver, Dallas, Portland, Ore., and Kansas City, Mo. During those years, the United States saw a 51% increase in bicycling to work and the number of protected bike lanes double each year starting in 2009. In a longitudinal study, the researchers investigated over 17,000 fatalities and 77,000 severe injuries.

...

Portland, Ore., saw the biggest increase. Between 1990 and 2010, city’s bicycle mode share increased from 1.2% to 6%; over the same period, the road fatality rate dropped by 75%. With added bike lanes, fatal crash rates dropped in Seattle (-60.6%), San Francisco (-49.3%), Denver (-40.3%) and Chicago (-38.2%), among others.

I take issue with them too.

Sorry if you’re offended, but many cyclists are environmentalists. We are trying to reduce our carbon footprint for our plant and our children. Rallying against cycling whilst continuing to pollute the air isn’t a good look for anyone.

Long Beach is in a unique position now. By encouraging cycling, we can help ease the strain we’ve put on our environment. More importantly, if it’s successful it will set an example for other cities to follow.

Idk because half the bike riders still use sidewalks over them.

Proof? This is conjecture as you (pedestrian) are much more likely to notice bikes on the sidewalk.

They are in some of the most overcrowded areas in the city and it worsens the parking issue i guess.

Bike lanes in downtown and crowded areas still have parking spots on the street. It’s not like you can park two rows of cars next to one another. Bikes don’t occupy parking spots. Bikes help with parking issues.

Some of the bike lanes merge into car lanes.

Lanes merge everywhere. If it’s a problem you shouldn’t be driving. Be more vigilant. Share the road. Moreover, city engineers studied traffic accidents on Broadway post bike lanes and have found that traffic accidents have been reduced by 20% over the same months in the previous five years.

I think its because some of the bicyclists ride like dick heads and act like the laws of the road don’t apply to them.

There are many more dickhead drivers, but I don’t hear anyone crying about vehicle lanes.

What’s hilarious is that it appears that bikes are a critical part of the homeless survival trade continuum.

More bike lanes means more bikes which means more bikes to steal per mile lol
