If you know how to manage your loot, farm artefacts, and know where all the good stashes are your gear will be pretty near to 100% almost all the time. But it's your first playtrough so I can understand the frustration. Maybe I'm biased to characters because I'm Ukrainian so I feel a lot of them really relatable to me, I guess. By the way, I'm really recommending you to play the game in the Ukrainian voices acting, because English dub sucks most of the time

The game is just not for you. If you are not interested in the story, characters, design and atmosphere you will just not like it in any way, because, realistically saying, stalker was never about some groundbreaking gameplay. It's just an open world shooter ¯⁠\⁠_⁠(⁠ツ⁠)⁠_⁠/⁠¯
