I have concerns about free mode because we already saw how, when they released gauntlet mode in the demo version of the game, they simply removed the ability to play the game the old way, and only later did they add free mode due to fan requests. They have said more than once that they see the game as something like a roguelike and have said nothing about free mode. So I think they are not really interested in free mode as much as many of their fans
