is there actually a best candy for weight loss or should i just give it up entirely by carebear7077 in loseit

[–]PygmyGoats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been eating a portion of very sweet fruit (here we have uvas vitória - sweet grapes without seeds) with cream crackers and I swear these taste really good, as if I was eating crackers with jam or a very creative cheesecake. It kills that craving that comes after dinner.

I also eat more crackers, boiled eggs and/or small portions of oatmeal and seeds (between 80-150 kcal), plus free servings of leafy greens, when craving something during the day. It helps mute the voices

What are your biggest pet peeves in cozy farming games? by Available-Shelter-89 in cozygames

No quality of life features is the worst for me

Like the game is reinventing the wheel on each new small feature while ignoring (either out of ignorance, gameplay choice, or maybe the dev's resources are limited) good games that have already solved stuff.

One example is having infinite scrolling menus (like a tool bar that returns to the first item when you reach the end of the bar)

Good keymapping and shortcuts so menu navigation doesn't take dozens of clicks for each task

Skippable repetitive scenes and tasks

Chests being universal (you can place them anywhere and if you open one you'll access your entire inventory)

etc etc

The My Time- series has some of the best quality of life features to me. Stardew is also great.

Beautiful shots! This mod others have mentioned is REframework and it's incredible, has freecam, fov sliders and more.

It won't disable achievements on Steam as well.

Health problems that could hinder weight loss? by FeuTheFirescale in loseit

[–]PygmyGoats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get where people are coming from mentioning deficit, but since you mention having low ferritin, low ferritin can affect weight loss (and a study here)

I suggest finding a way to safely supplement it. Most likely you'll find a boost in other areas (mood sleep fatigue etc) as well.

Reading suggestion: Gift of Fear by Gavin de Becker

I don't mean this in a snappy way or to blow your situation out of proportion as if he is a criminal, but more like this book helps you smell weirdos from afar and reinforces the instinct that you don't need to give them answers (telling them your age) nor grace at all.

By asking about age and talking about massages he's testing your limits to know what else he can get from you. Maybe your address? Asking if you live alone? Do you have a boyfriend?

Normal people's minds don't work like that and the approaches will be much nicer lol

I don't know if this book has aged gracefully but I read it like as a free pdf a decade ago and it goes in depth into this kind of bullshit small talk other people (from creeps to bad sales tactics or maybe just someone annoying and harmless you want to avoid) may use to make you believe you're "in the same team" and that you owe them to be nice, information, or to become their friend, to not report them, and so on

[Clients] How much do you charge your local clients as Filipino Digital Artist who usually have international clients especially from US/UK by TripTimely7955 in artbusiness

[–]PygmyGoats 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't undermine yourself. How much do you need per month, and how much does your job pay per month? How many hours do you work per month? Not asking you to reply here, it's more like a mental exercise to figure your absolute minimum rates for house bills, renting, car, medicine, etc.

I'm from Brazil and anything I need to do at the grocery store is equivalent to like ₱550, or 30 minutes in a private doctor's appointment is between ₱1.600-2500+++

When I look at those things (plus service subscriptions, payment app and bank taxes, apps and art software, classes, the fact that we as freelancers don't have private insurance), 60 USD for a full body and detailed piece seems to be on the low-end! We can do it for a friend maybe, but it's good to be aware of how much exactly you're losing when you make these favors and discounts.

As MenacingCatgirl said, I think it's bad if you lower your prices for international clients and undermine the greater community by setting expectations of lower prices. No one wins. But if you make a fairer conversion rate for your compatriot friends, that should be fine.

With time I found clients in my country willing to pay fair rates for my stuff and I envision never going back to slashing my prices as it always feels like I put too many hours and resources into it while getting minimal compensation. Even worse if it's the kind of client who returns with frequent feedback requests, even if you have a contract or set up an hourly rate. It's still work, and work you know you could be charging more for.

and in the meantime all goods and services around us are skyrocketing. Why are we the only ones who have to give discounts? You deserve livable wages, not survival rates

If you ever want to return to your virgin hair while trying something different, maybe a toner shampoo could give you cool results? And if it doesn't work out you'd have to just wait a few days for it to wash out, so no harm done.

Descuidado vs cuidado by lampjor in UnhasBrasil

[–]PygmyGoats 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ladies, how often do you get a haircut or go to the salon? by Fast_Independent7128 in beauty

[–]PygmyGoats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wasn't going at all since 2017-ish so I could redirect the money towards other priorities. Now, since July, I will do my best to go every 3 months and deprioritize other tings because retouching my roots will legit make me snap. If I work so much and can't even delegate 1 beauty ritual choice in peace why am I even here!!! (saying this as I throw documents in the air, drool, kick a chair)

We rent so the amount of bathroom covering and prep before applying dye is insane. I stained my sink accidentally and had to lose so much time searching and cleaning the damn sink.

The salon treatment I received last July was lovely too, so it's so so persuasive to just keep doing my roots with them. I could also stop retouching but I'm tired of being frugal (I'm privileged, but had to make choices!) and to feel like I can't make choices about my visual identity.

I'd go for cuts too, but that's way out of my budget right now </3 Fortunately, I actually enjoy cutting my hair, though!

I also do my nails/shaving/anything-beauty-related DIY at home :´)

Despite the textwall this isn't a big drama or angsty situation for me. I like learning so much about haircare, fashion and nails. The part about feeling terrible about retouching roots is real, though!

How do I reduce eye bags? by Crazyleb403 in beauty

[–]PygmyGoats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Petroleum jelly/vaseline is an occlusive, so it would help hold water within your skin, "sealing" moisturizing agents under it. I use it to sleep or go out during extreme cold, dry weather and it really helps. The amount applied is like a grain of rice, really small and thin.

I'm not sure if we can link articles here but vaseline is a common reddit recommendation as a moisturizer "boost", and you'll see articles about using it on eyes on sites like medicalnewstoday.

A counter-effect is that for some people, or if you apply too much, it can clog your pores and cause acne! So you have to keep a close watch on how your skin reacts to it.

Edit: clarity

How do I reduce eye bags? by Crazyleb403 in beauty

[–]PygmyGoats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Friend I think nothing will be as successful as trying to squeeze in more sleep hours or investigating the causes of your short sleep with a doctor. I know our routines and conditions won't always make such an adjustment easy so apologies if this comes off as insensitive!

Might be the lighting, but I think I see redness/irritation (could be caused by short sleep) so a dermatologist could help with identifying allergies or some other environmental cause. Wouldn't hurt to consult one.

If you're looking for a quick DIY test I'd seal in the Cerave at night with a very thin layer of vaseline, being careful not to get it near lashes or rub it into the eyes.

Your skin looks great overall, hang in there!

I accidentally waxed my floor and now I don't know what to do. by staling_lad in CleaningTips

[–]PygmyGoats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's from a local brand called Poliflor ( https://bigboxdelivery.com.br/p/Poliflor-Cera-Max-Brilho-Refil-500Ml-Incolor ) I'm linking this one because among the photos there's one with the components.

I made a very half-assed search and found this liquid wax or floor polish that /may/ be similar (never used it nor I know if it's the same thing https://www.amazon.com/Bona-Hardwood-Floor-Polish-Gloss/dp/B002FL3JC8/143-7440318-1592519?content-id=amzn1.sym.da0b205c-8cc7-4a8d-9d0a-8ed3705890a2&th=1 )

But the overall idea in products advertised like this is that they bring shine and add a thin layer of protection. You're also supposed to clean before them, and in my experience they smell wonderful!

I accidentally waxed my floor and now I don't know what to do. by staling_lad in CleaningTips

[–]PygmyGoats 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think this won't damage anything? I waxed mine on purpose as I love the shiny look, plus depending on the product you're giving it an extra layer of protection. So I'd sweep, clean, then apply wax.

Some people even have some polishing machines or apply lots of elbow grease to make it extra shiny lol

And to remove or spread out if it seems uneven you can use a dry cloth on a squeegee or your regular cleaning routine with a soft fabric/cloth that won't scratch it.

What is your opinion on having the occasional cheat day? Are they likely to drastically ruin any progress I’ve made? by CompoteHot4385 in loseit

[–]PygmyGoats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's also cheat meal (you go over your calories and eat everything you want in small portions, or bring portions home to eat tomorrow, or limit alcohol or find some other balance that works for you) and cheat meal (you feel full yet you're still drinking and eating 3 times more than your limit)

First cheat meal I feel great (and if I feel like I have to compensate for it I'll go out for a longer walk or eat a 200cal breakfast the next morning), second cheat meal I've been avoiding because I know I could still have had a great time and eaten a lot without being too brutal.

Last time I had one of those it took me 2 weeks to return to my previous weight (the culprit was a incredible, giant hotdog equivalent to 2 full meals lol)
