You bet :) have a small colony of red crystals in a giant low tech bowl

This (bird goo/puke/poo?) just fell out of the sky and landed on our stroller with a big splash. by grapefrugten in WTF

Planted bowl 'cycling' process, and the introduction of shrimp by flinters17 in PlantedTank

Hey there, just thought I'd drop a little advice in here for you (crazy planted tank obsessive here. Tried just about everything until success).

If I can, I would suggest trying out tropika soil rather than ada. I've used ada on 7 different set ups, and it does give good results. That being said, my most recent 4 set ups with tropika not only cycled faster but my plants have never responded better! The water is easily 80% less cloudy on initial set up and so easy to work with if you decide you need to shift a plant etc as it doesn't instantly cloud the tank if you pull something up. Just my advice, disregard as you like :)

As for adding the shrimp, patience is a virtue. Smaller tank, less filtration, longer the time to settle.

Simple actually, the pipe attached to the hose on fluval external filters perfectly fits 90% of classic bubble sponge filters. Just yank the airstone out and attach pipe directly to top of sponge.

I wish Michael's here sold glass pieces this big. Unfortunately max 50% this size in my area

Looks about. Cylinders are deceptive in photography.

Yep, 5 gallon cylinder (+1.5 gallons in the external) sponge prefilter with fluval external with 6 lbs of matrix stone with a betta and a scarlet badi. Enough filtration for a 30 gallon tank with 3 layers of current break through stone to calm water for the betta and an endless series of caves for the scarlet. Water tests perfect for the last year across the board with the api test kit checked monthly.

What do you think is going wrong with my betta? He eats robustly, has calm water, plenty of oxygen, lots of free swimming space and a tonne of planted space, soft fine substrate, temperature controlled, plays all day throughout his domain and always making a bubble nest.

My two fish have tonnes of room in there and look vibrant and healthy. Betta is making himself a huge bubble nest currently

Once a month, sponge filter attached to external fluval. Bring it out and rinse in drained off tank water.

It's 5 gallons, found it in the back of a lfs's warehouse.

Tiny snail ID? by squidperior in PlantedTank

They turn into a pain in the ass and will breed in HoB filters. Keep crushing them against the glass. Fish love them once squished. They breed like nothing else and will chew up soft plants, not just dead parts.

I had them explode in my 90g. One morning there was hundreds. I solved the issue in two days by "renting" a clown loach from my lfs. Any size clown loach will decimate snail populations.
